My guilty pleasure. Corned beef salad on brown with mayo, mustard and loads of black pepper. Food of the gods.
I love opening the can with the key. Having an early nibble and then doing something with it. I make a mean corned beef hash with lardons, sun ripened dried tomatoes, shallots, garlic and obviously spuds. Splash of Shrichuan for the last 20 minutes, dreamy.
Fray Bentos is a place.

Definitely better from the can rather than slices. Slices can be a bit dry in comparison.
I was just looking at the ingredients of Princes "lean" corned beef.
Cooked Beef (95%), Beef (3%), Salt, Sugar, Preservative: Sodium Nitrate
Typical values per 100g
Energy 776kJ/185kcal
Fat 9.0g
- of which saturates 5.0g
Carbohydrate 1.1g
- of which sugars 1.1g
Protein 25.0g
Salt 1.30g
I suppose the big question is what can legally be called "beef"? All sorts of dodgy bits? If it contained offal, you would think they would have to state it on the ingredients.

The slices come from a can anyway. Amazing how many people will buy it from a deli counter because it's 'better', when all they've done is open a can out the back and stick it on a slicer.
You can buy slices in sealed packets from the refrigerated area, but they are a bit drier.AlexC1981 said:
