On the new 718 gt4 does the sports Chrono option do anymore than listed below? On other models it has other functions and it enhances the vehicle performance.

The web site list this for the 718 gt4

Comprising an analogue stopwatch on the dashboard, a digital stopwatch function in the instrument cluster and performance display in Porsche Communication Management (PCM)

Just the clock I believe. The dynamic gearbox mounts are there anyway, unlike on non-GT models.

On the German and other country sites it includes the lap timing function and I guess enables the track phone app. Same option code as UK site so why different description?

Although the said app is totally useless right now with the current version in the App Store.

Pretty sure you get launch control and the sports response button on a PDK equipped car, which this isn’t.

So it’s just a clock on the dash....

Mmmmmh I feel I should spec it but will probably never ever use it!

Yeah, I am speccing it, and making it white. An expensive trinket, but the Chrono was always a 'must have' so not sure if i'm brave enough to omit it!

I rather dislike the silly clock.
Were I speccing my 981 new, I'd omit the Sport Chrono package and get it retrofitted minus the clock. On my 2.7 it adds some nice features, but that darn clock ruins the lines of the dash.

On a 718 GT4 I don't think it would be missed.

keep it black, it will reflect in the windscreen white.

It looks better with it, than not, but it is a waste of money.

Tried the news app yesterday for the first time at Silverstone and it's a right PITA. Much preferred the old one. among many failings it doesn't seem to record audio irrespective of how which way the record audio toggle is set.

Yep - it's totally useless right now.
Annoying, as I liked the old version and had just got everything working the way I wanted with external GPS from my vBOX Sport and merging footage from my GoPro with the Porsche Data overlay...so i was really looking forward to the new graphics.

Right now -
- There is no importing of external footage.
- It doesn't work with external GPS sensors.
- Crashes all the time.

There's just loads of functionality that is missing now.

Tempted to just chuck the whole lot and get a full vBOX video setup..... so annoying.

Can you tell that i'm annoyed?

.... I've just checked my phone again... and there has been a further update. Will check it out and report back... hopefully they have started to address some of the above.

So it sounds like it isn’t worth the money imo. I have no need for a timer in my car if that’s all
It does badly.

The appearance of the clock is down to personal preference. In the 981 it was nicely integrated. For the 718 it back to the wart.
Other than that for GT cars.... I'd probably leave it out if speccing a new one, unless its silly cheap.

Just realised you don’t get the mode selector on the steering wheel either on the GT4. I find that more facile than the centre console equivalent. Just looks like you get a clock and the ability to do the lap timing thing on the digital display. I’d agree with keeping it black as mentioned above, a coloured one is permanently reflected on the windscreen.
