Hi all,

Looking for some help finding an SUV - I've got a budget of around £3000 (though that can increase a little if needed). It'll be used for tip runs, trips with the dog, putting the mountain bike in the back, that kind of thing, so I expect to only do around 5 or 6k miles a year.

MPG isn't important, and offroad capability isn't a priority though it'd be nice to do some greenlaning, and I'm sure would help with trips to Wales later in the year.

So far the list is:
- Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK and WJ)
- Mitsubishi Shogun
- Toyota Landcruiser (though it'll not be great for this price)
- Porsche Cayenne
- VW Touareg

A Grand Cherokee seems the best bet for the money in terms of not throwing ridiculous bills, but I'd appreciate any advice on things I may have missed or should be wary of with the above selection. Thanks in advance.

Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser are a rebadged Mitsubishi Outlander with the 2.2 HDi engine. They’re available in budget whereas a decent Outlander may be more difficult.

I have a 4007 XS bought for the sole purpose of putting a large full suss mountain bike in the back without taking anything off. The split tailgate is a nice to have when putting shoes on!

It’s a brilliant car and would probably suit you well but I have to warn that (not least due to main dealer pricing for reasons I won’t go into) it’s cost me £3000 to sort clutch/flywheel issues and oil leaks (ie the PSA bits - the Mitsubishi bits are fine). I suspect a big bill could face any of the above though.
