Wedge for an early(ish) car - Need some info..

Hi!
Could do with some info on buying a wedge or S at around 19 or 20yrs of age -- thing is I'm not sure what insurance we are talking.

Lets say buying at 19, got 2 years no claims, what sort of difference in price for insurance would there be between say a 290 S3 and 350i or something like that..
They'd be about 1988-1990 Reg too..

Also could anyone give me a rough guide about running/servicing figures..?

Hi Dave I think you need to ring round a few insurance companies.Don't think it will be too bad though.My SEAC costs £350 a year including track days,5,000 miles a year garaged but then i'm very old at 37
I'm with Pearts,but there are lots of places to try, I'm sure the guy's will add to this list.

I have a 1984 350i.
I'm with Aon for £138/annum fully comp for 6k miles.
It's a classic policy.

It's a relatively cheap car to keep running, on cheapish tyre sizes, ordinary u/l fuel and mineral oils.

I'm 37 and I pay £160 a year fully comp, for a 350i 7k/year.

There'd be no difference unless the car that you buy has been heavily modified like a 200i with a turbo knocking out 3 or 4 times the original bhp. Ins co.s are more worried about the fact that 1/ you want to drive a sports car (whether you do or not) and 2/ the repair cost of fibreglass.

Tasmin 200 Convertible

Some terms apply being a young driver etc, and that's with the car being locked in a garage and around 7500 miles per year... Thing is the minimum age I ould get quoted online for was 21, which these quotes are for.

For the difference between the 200 and 350i, would definately go for the 350 - 1.5litres for around an extra £15 a month, well worth it.

The only think i'm thinking is.. what is more reliable and cheaper to service and run?
350i or V8S??

350i is half the price of a V8s and if you want to get classic status to start reducing those insurance costs asap they are a bit young too.

The quotes were actually from a classic car insurer, it was ermmmm Lancaster Insurance I think, got to it via Hastings Direct...?

My 390SE used to be £260 f/comp., now it's on a shared policy with the Esprit and they both cost me £350.

Hmm, my 390SE is £192 with those same people.

I'll have to try and get the 280 on a shared policy too, as that was around the 200 mark last time.
