So I decided after going bank holiday weekend in April to get myself back out there for my birthday.

It originally was 4 of us but a friend was injured badly at IOM TT from a foreign rider on the wrong side of the road and it put my other friend who see it all happen completely off bikes for a bit...so it was just me and a mate who I have been riding with since the early 00's

We left on the Thursday afternoon after work. By the time we got to Calais I thought it would be smart to compete with my mates Multistrada bus on fuel range. I lost...miserably! Averaging about 90ish mph as the first 100 miles we did motorway until out of France I ran out of fuel. 146 miles, just like that! He still had 35 miles to go!

Waiting on the side of the road quite a few helpful French bikers pulled over. One of them said they could take me pillion to a fuel station (I am a nervous passenger) but it was 4 miles from the closest station and on his old 918 Blade he cruised with me on the back, got a fuel can and dropped me back. Absolute top bloke for that and had to get a picture! I also made sure I fuelled every 120 miles max after this and didnt trust reserve more than 15 miles!

That got the weekend Euro trip in full swing and we had a laugh about it (delayed us about 30 mins).

We got to Germany late Thursday...well Friday 1am but it was still nice to finally park up

I very much unlike the previous 2 years intended to ride a few laps of the ring. I love the roads, the atmosphere, just the whole sense of freedom and passion for motoring there which seems heavily dulled down here in England now

We watched on YouTube corner, weather was hot and it zapped the energy but in the afternoon I did 4 laps on track. The first one fairly gentle, the second one I pushed on a bit but got caught in bloody traffic on the final 2 corners and the next 2 both with yellow flags. I felt much more flowing though and comfortable with the corners and started remembering sections better

My mate did 2 laps as well but finds it a bit daunting so decided to watch from the sidelines

Went back to a couple that I was introduced from here, ate way more than I should've and got drunk on 2 beers (Im southern)

Next morning got back out in the morning and managed another 3 laps. It was on the Saturday though and constant yellow or red flags. I got 1 lap on video uploaded, not checked the other lap yet but it'll be similar

Video here >>> https://youtu.be/kPxQAqmoUAw

Managed to hit the highest speed I've ever recorded on my Tuono...I actually didn't think it could do it because of the gearing but it bounced off the limiter on track and bloody done it! 170mph! Real GPS given its an Aprilia is more like 70mph but its the thought that counts laughlaugh

Got home that night and was shattered. I had surgery recently on my leg/hip from an old mx injury and when they took the 65 staples out I must've got a bit of infection on my hip...jesus it knocked the crap out of me (I got myself sorted the moment I got back to England)

Anyways laying up on the sofa I see a few pictures that looked good going round there so bought a few to keep as memories

The next morning we set off early for the ride home. A few stops to relieve the the numb bums and fuel and we that was our weekend done...until the next time!

Superb, I'm jealous of people that go do the 'Ring as I always love the pics and stories but have no inner desire to actually go do it !!!!

Good effort and nice write up.

Have been in cars a few times years ago but not sure I am brave enough to mix it up on my bike with cars on the track especially with some of the driving standards I have seen there...

Great write-up, thanks for taking the time to share and upload. You probably don't think it, but that lap video looks bananas fast. biggrin

Is that a bird or a beetle at 1.15?

It wasn't immediately obvious to me why the white S3 had the hazards on.
