Useable sporty retro/classic
Discussion
Sorry for yet another thread. Im very indecisive and in no rush.
I almost bought an Alfa GTV 3.0 but didn't move quickly enough and somebody else bought it.
I had my eye on a CLK500 but have decided 1100 quid a year to insure it is too rich.
I have also lowered my budget a bit from my last thread, to 4 to 7k ish, and decided I would (probably) rather a sports car than something larger. It still needs to have enough space for a week away (mx5 or larger). Preferably 5 or more cylinders. I would like to avoid rust. I want something interesting and or unusual. Preferably a coupe or 2 seater.
It seems that slightly older sports cars tend to be cheaper to insure. More modern quick cars 350z etc too pricey to justify as a weekend car.
My current thoughts:
Alfa GTV 3.0. Seems to be a lot of rusty ones.
Fiat Coupe Turbo. Rust?
TVR 350i. Need to find one with chassis work done?
Mk1 mx5. Bit slow?
Slk350 r171. Balancer shaft issues?
Jaguar xk8. Rust, and general reliability issues?
Honda crx. Pricey for what it is atm?
Prelude 2.2.
Anything else? 350i and GTV probably current favourites.
I don't mind taking a punt on a classic but want to avoid rust!

TVR S series
Ridiculously cheap for what they are and no issues if the chassis is solid (fibreglass body).
Seem to start at 10k nowadays! Wedges appeal but not sure I have the eye to tell if the chassis is solid.Ridiculously cheap for what they are and no issues if the chassis is solid (fibreglass body).

Looks very clean.
