VWFS – Delivery Mileage

Hi all, two years ago I leased a VW via CVL, financed through VWFS. The car was delivered with 120 miles on it.
I returned the car three months early with 435 miles over the contracted mileage of 10000 miles. VWFS have calculated an allowed mileage based on the early return of the vehicle of 8800 miles, meaning I have excess of 1635 miles to pay, at a cost of 10.8p inc. VAT.
I called to ask if the delivery mileage had been factored in and have been told that they work on the basis that the car arrives with the customer with 0 miles.
Is this correct? It's certainly not been the case with any other car I have leased, and at no point was I made aware of this in any correspondence with the lease provider or the supplying dealer.
PS. Realise this isn't something worth getting aeriated about.

I’ve only asked the question, it’s not really any hassle. It’s not something I’ve encountered on any other lease car, in fact most have been clear in stating that delivery mileage doesn’t count towards your contracted mileage. I was curious to know if what VWFS have told me is correct as my previous dealings with them don’t inspire any trust.

I think it is accepted that a lease car will likely be a driven delivery, which I'm fine with. I don't think those miles should make a dent in your contracted mileage, after all you have no choice in the supplying dealer in most cases. What if I live in Aberdeen and the supplying dealer ends up being in Portsmouth? I've never bought a new car that has came with more than 9 miles on it. 49 is ridiculous and I'd have been asking questions.

Logic says that's a function of you're tax-adjusted income and opportunity cost of time. At its simplest, if the OP's on minimum wage and it takes <c.2.5 hours its worth doing so - obviously less time if paid more.

My leased Golf arrived with 125 miles on it when delivered. I hope that's taken into account when it goes back in January..
If it's with VWFS then it won't be – they don't even have record of the mileage the car arrives with at the customer. They base their mileage quota on the car being delivered with zero miles on it.Don't pay any of it, they can't enforce it.

"There are many types of car finance, and not all of them are equally protected. If you have a lease (such as a contract hire or operating lease), then you are more limited in your options.
It’s expensive getting out of a lease early, and there is limited support available to help you. You are simply renting the vehicle, with no intention of eventually owning it. As a result, you are not covered by VT rights like you are with a PCP or HP."

I asked VW the same question, they said it was up to the supplying dealer to fund it. When I checked my paperwork, it said delivery to home address, but made no mention of wether it was free or not. I've got the delivery note from Inchcape VW Telford showing the starting mileage of 120 miles.
