My Vantage is showing the dreaded paint bubbles around both handles, I am wondering if any other North East owners have had this problem repaired and/or can recommend a good body shop in the area?

Any idea of approx cost to have 2 doors sprayed and blended wouldn't go amiss either if possible!.

Cheers,

Steve

Depending on age and if you have a relationship with any dealer it could be worth a try under the anti corrosion warranty. Recently had my door done FOC under "goodwill" (out of warranty years ago) at main dealer on 2012 Roadster

Cheers Bogie, I’ll ring silverlink tomorrow.
It’s juts under 10 years old but serviced within the AM network since new.

Have you any pictures of it please?
It will be interesting to hear how you get on with them.

My 2014MY Vantage's paint issues are currently under consideration by AML. When I took it to AML Nottingham to report the issues the service manager said that AML will basically do all cars under 10 years old now. Sounds almost like they've finally accepted it is their problem which, of course, it is. Haven't heard back yet but if it gets refused I will then escalate as one bit (by the mirror arm) has already been painted 3 times! I have door handle surround (pictured), by mirror arm and front corners of bonnet.

I’m interested in any recommendations in NE/N area (based in Leeds) as mine has a few showing on the boot lid. Doors have been sound but boot lid now has a couple of minor bubbles.

Boot lid? That's a new one on me. Do you have any pictures so I know what I'm looking for?

Just had my 2013 Vantage done by AM Nottingham (actually Chartwells do the work) - both door handles, all under warranty. Morningfrost white, so needed to be blended carefully, and they have done a very good job.

Here you go James, they’re excellent at Silverlink as you know, they’ve sent off the application this morning so I now have everything crossed!

I had one of my front wings repaired and resprayed by RCP near York. Damien who runs the business (and does the work) is meticulous with his work. They deal with general stuff and many exotics for some of the prestige car dealers in the vicinity. I am very happy with what he did, and he charged me less than his estimate which was a nice surprise.

Thanks Soofsayer - will make contact with them.

Sorry Pete - no pics I am afraid and doubt a photo from my car park would be bright enough to actually show the bubbling - only really able to see it in daylight and from a side angle when the car is clean!

Looking at the two door handle pictures in isolation the damage seems to be minor - of course I can well understand your frustration; it would drive me mad, too!

But honestly, which options do you have: What would happen if these spots were simply ignored? Would the blisters grow or stay as they are in the long run? Any experiences on this? If they stayed as they are, would it be worth taking the risk of repainting the whole door - I guess that´s what we are talking about, right? - and getting a colour mismatch (in the worst case) or a perfect match in daylight at least but a slightly noticeable difference in the dark when lights are shone on it (in the best case to my experience)?

On my 2006 Vantage, it had paint bubbles from about 5 years old, never did anything with them and drove another 40k miles over another 5 years. At that time they were not being honoured under warranty...at least at the dealers I tried back then. They would offer 50% of cost at approved place...which was always extortionate. So I left it until I traded the car in at 10 years old. Dealer sorted it out no doubt as part re-sale preparation.

Wouldnt worry about it, if you can live with, the paint bubbling in my experience got no worse. The part that does seem to spread and get worse is the wing mirror arms....after 5 years it was flaking off my 2012 car and needed re-spraying otherwise you are driving around with tatty looking bare aluminium mirror arms.....

I'm no expert and not an Aston owner but from my experience of doing small bodywork repairs keep the repair confined to the small affected areas, I would rather have a tiny bit of touch up paint showing (I use a cocktail stick to drop a bit of paint into affected area) than run the risk of a large area of mismatched paint especially on something like an Aston Martin.

Well mine has definitely progressed.

It was first detected when the car was just under 3 years old as a tiny bleb within the door handle recess that you could only really feel. At the time AM Works said that you couldn't really see it and not to do anything at present but to bring it back if it progressed. TBH the only reason I took it to them then was because the car was still within 3 year full manufacturer's warranty as I too didn't want to risk a colour mismatch for something you couldn't really see.

2.5 years later it looks like this and the spreading seems to be accelerating and I think I could tolerate a very minor colour mismatch more than paint peeling off my door from behind.

Once you have a paint bubble it spreads, that’s my experience anyway.

It’s a real dilemma but for me I’d rather risk the colour mismatch than have paint bubbles.
