Anyone know this 570 Spider?
Discussion
I'm thinking about getting a McLaren, so of course I started catching up with this forum. And despite you lot bickering all the time I'm still thinking of getting one
I'm narrowing it down to wanting a 570 Spider. I've discounted the 540C as I think if I bought one I'd be chopping it in for a 570 within a year anyway. The more expensive McLarens are out of my budget unless I buy an older one and I prefer the 570 anyway. It seems the only disadvantage of the Spider over the coupe is the additional cost really, apart from the somewhat insignificant 45kg weight gain.
This one is for sale in McLaren New Forest and has lots of expensive stuff on it. The mileage is reasonable. However, they say it's previously owned by McLaren, it also has a track telemetry pack. So I'm assuming it's an ex-demo or press car and may well have seen a lot of track action. I expect engine/gearbox major failures would be covered by a warranty, but I'm more worried about wear and tear stuff - brakes, clutch(es), suspension bushes etc.
Anyone know anything about the car of have any advice? Constructive preferably

Nice spec! I don’t know of that particular vehicle, but could ask members of the MOC UK if you like? Shall I do that?

I don't know anything about it - but I have a question :
What makes you choose 570 over 650? My impression is that 570s are the popular choice at the moment (assuming 720s are out of reach), but 650s seem a lot of car for the money. The air brake alone makes them tempting for me, even if that's not a very good reason for buying a car!
Is it purely the fact that the 650s would be slightly older?
I'm getting increasingly tempted to try and sell everything and try McLaren - but my subconscious seems to be thinking a 650 would be the way to go. You seem to be looking at similar price point that I would, so I'm curious why you've gone the 570 route.

Hi Bob
That's a great spec car.
Its less than 18mths old and a piddly 4500 miles; even if they were by the press, after every return it would of been inspected to ensure it went out again in rude health...it may of been a long term press car with only 1 driver at a magazine or even management within McLaren... i personally wouldn't have any worries about it and you have the bullet proof warranty.
You have to assume its been tracked so insist on the after trackday inspection including a 4 wheel geo check ( hunter system at McLaren Glasgow ) with the printout to show all 4 corners are set up correct as part of the deal...its surprising how much a trackday can alter the set up.
If its the spec you want, at the price your happy with, don't hang about.
Negotiate really hard and get the deal done.
Then prepare to feel like a celebrity wherever you stop and get out of it.

Nice car and good spec
It appears to have all the Track Pack equipment ( ( Seats, wheels and Telemetry etc ) but may not be one. Either way dealer should confirm if it has been tracked , although it has 18 months warranty and any issues would be covered .
Actually Mclarens probably aren’t effected greatly by being tracked by ordinary folks as they are so fast and remember they are built for tracking.
Get the car ceramic coated and full ppf’d and strike a deal , I am sure you won’t be disappointed
The 650s while a great car does show its age both internally and externally imo and the 570 rear just look much better although not dynamically as good

I am in a similar position and have looked at the 570 GT, the 570 S both spider and coupe and the 650 S . From my point of view I am after the longest Mclaren warranty I can get with the car I purchase.
I believe the Mclaren warranty on the 650S is more per year than on the 570 series. I also assume the Iris system is more updated on the 570 series from 2018 model year than on the final run of 650 s cars.
Just my opinion, I am sure someone on the forum will be able to add to this.

For peace of mind, you could get Thorney Motorsport to do a health check as well, but with that mileage, and the remainder of the warranty, I wouldn’t be too concerned.

I have a loan 570 at the moment while my 720 is in for some work being done. What a car!

Mostly that to be honest. If parts weren't so expensive and there were more Indies out there to work on one it would be less of an issue. Is it purely the fact that the 650s would be slightly older?
Also I simply prefer the looks of the 570. And I don't have an airbrake fetish

I hear you but don't entirely buy your argument
I raced for 10 years and know how much more stress a car is under on track than on road, even a McLaren. And inspections are all well and good in that they'll pick up damage and obvious wear, they won't prevent the inevitable deterioration.
It is a lovely spec though...

Would you like me to ask members of the MOC UK if they know the car?

I gave a non biased reply as the OP asked for thoughts on that car.
However, i understand where you are coming from. I have a 650 spider and chose that over a 570 spider for quite a few reasons..; its super series, has the witchcraft suspension, low numbers that are ever available for sale and i feel within a couple of years they shall retain a greater return when it comes to selling due to the volume of 540 and 570s being produced.
I still havn't seen a photograph of a 650 that does it justice...they don't seem to photograph well and may even look dated..in the flesh it surprises you.
Some folks just like a car still with latest tech and under a manufacturers warranty rather than pay to extend it after every year, but all costs are relative...cars less than 3 yrs old shall lose more money yearly than an older car shall including the 'expensive' warranty.
Different folks different strokes.
Nether of them models is anything less than fantastic.
BobM, MOC member reporting in I have looked round the car and it’s beautiful it looks so good in the Orange.
Knowing the team their, Tom & Harry in sales they are good guys. I have sold a car to them and bought a car from them too, as new dealers on the block they are getting some preferential treatment from Woking at the moment, the used cars they have are very well specked and priced to sell.
I have no other affiliation to them by the way.
Ps having had a 570S and Spider the drop top wins by a mile enjoy whatever you eventually buy.

That looks absolutely epic - IMO a Mac has to be in orange 👍
A couple of things; it should still have a year and a half of factory warranty on it so this is worth circa £5k - you will need to allow for a warranty cost (and possible inspection cost) on anything over 3 years old (unless you feel brave) one of the reasons I didn’t go down the 650s route; also I preferred the uncomplicated (relative) set up of the sport series over the super series.
Best of luck in your purchase 👍

I would have thought with a little final squeeze on the deal with that car you could get them to extend the warranty, certainly something I'd be pushing for.A couple of things; it should still have a year and a half of factory warranty on it so this is worth circa £5k - you will need to allow for a warranty cost (and possible inspection cost) on anything over 3 years old (unless you feel brave) one of the reasons I didn’t go down the 650s route; also I preferred the uncomplicated (relative) set up of the sport series over the super series.

Don’t forget to drive them both - preferably back to back. That was the ultimate decider for me, though neither is a bad choice. Also I simply prefer the looks of the 570. And I don't have an airbrake fetish
