Can anybody explain why you can use the DVLA on line service to change keeper, tax, put a private plate on etc... but you can’t use it to change your address???

What is it about an address change, not a change of keeper, that means you can’t do it on line? Bonkers!

Is there a reason? Or is it just DVLA fkwittery.

That's for a licence - not a V5

I'm in the process of completing the V62 form for a change of address on the V5 and the cheeky monkeys want a cheque for £25 as well.

No need to fill in a V62.
Just sell the car to yourself and put yourself and your new address in the new keeper section on the V5.
It will just cost you a postage stamp. smile

You just need to write your new address on the V5c and post it DVLA.

Costs the price of an envelope and stamp.

Honestly, the DVLA are much more switched on than you think when it comes to the digitalisation of all these things we need to do to interact with them. There are decades of processes which need to be overturned. It will come, but it takes time to develop the back end processes and the front end processes you see.

But some bloke on the internet knows better and just calls them fkwits.

Really?? It’s 2019. I’ve just moved house, and changed my address on everything online, bar this! I’ve changed my driving licence, banking, various insurance policies and council tax, all on line.

The bit I don’t get, is that you can sell/buy a car using their on line service. But not change the address of the keeper? Surely that makes no sense.
If you have the V5, just need you new address, Reg, and document number?
It can’t be bloody hard. Christ, I work in the public sector so I do have an appreciation of how backwards and slow progress can be, but this is just daft.

No.. you don't tick the "new keeper" box when you put your new address on the form and send it off.

I don't know if you can do it online though but having done a couple of things online recently with my car a few of them still have "beta" testing on, so they are clearly not the final version.

Work for them?

IME DVLA are backwards and reek of typical wasteful government bureaucracy. It pains me to think that due to the mismanagement there, the tax payer picked up a large court bill in my dealings with them.
