I was going to post this as a response to another poster in Justins thread, but decided not to derail it and put it here instead.

In the mid 2000's when Mercedes went through their well documented corrosion phase; and that was genuine corrosion unlike this 'reaction', i had a succesion of 3 different AMG's that went in and recieved new wings, doors, bonnets, tailgates etc.

Moderately annoying, but recieved courtesy cars and the cars came back absolutely minted, maybe better than they day they were delivered.

Never put me off Mercedes due to how they dealt with it and still have an AMG sitting on the driveway and another shall replace it.

Mercedes learned from it and won't ever make them mistakes again.

If you bought a million pound house and due to whatever reason some of the rendering cracked after a year or so, the builder would come in and rectify and make like new. You would be happy and life goes on...you certainly wouldn't be that upset you would sell the house.

McLaren as a car manufacturer is still eating baby food; of course there shall be issues but they are on a huge learning curve, albeit an ambitious one driven by the investors.

Sooner rather than later they will get a good % of these issues eradicated.

In my so far limited experience, McLaren Glasgow have went beyond the call of duty to help out on my teeny issues.

Its great that Mick and Justin are posting up their current dealer experiences.

Its good to get genuine 1st hand reviews on McLaren service centre experience of a car being serviced or warranty work rather than the posts of 'my friends McLaren went in and it was terrible', or some youtube blogger that needs views in order to be paid so has to dramatize.

Its a bit similar with the post from people whom went to McLaren showrooms and no-one came over to them; just maybe they were letting people browse...a lot of showroom visitors are popping in just to gawk at the stunning motors on show same as Joe Macaris place; Kitchen suppliers have the different business model...people post they hate popping in them as your pounced on and not left alone to browse...hard to get the happy medium i guess...

For the posters that have a go about 'another new model' being announced, they maybe missed Ferrari popping out the Pista, Pista spider, the Superfast, the Sp90 or Porsche with the GT4, the Boxster spyder, the 992, the GT3RS etc, etc all within the last 12months.

For me...i took a dive into the unknown and i'm in for the long haul...and currently loving every minute of ownership.

I think when you buy a car from a 'smaller' manufacturer, you need to expect to have some niggles. For me it's how the dealers deal with the issues that matter.

Before the 540 I had two Vantages and before that an Evora.

Lotus - bought new and was basically told when I bought it that the customer was doing the Q&A checks by driving and owning the cars. I had a lot of minor issues in the first 12 months.. door seals mainly, few electrical niggles etc. Lotus were great. All sorted quickly and efficiently.

Aston - again much the same. Although this time, any issues and the car was picked up on a covered transporter from my house and dropped off again, saving my time and car mileage. Genuinely great service.

McLaren - only issue to report so far is the corrosion, and so far so good. Car was booked in promptly, and hoping to get it back this week. I appreciate I've not had some of the issues others have, but perfectly happy with how it's going.

I think people should set realistic expectations when buying and owning cars like these.

Ok, for me I have had my 570S for 12 months , it has currently been with McLaren now for 7 weeks due to oxidation. This is the second time in the twelve months I have owned it. Both front wings are being changed along with both door appliqués and both rear wings.

In that time also it has has a headlight delaminate and needed a new catalytic converter on one side.

Car still has not been back , there has been no update I have have no courtesy car the car is now 2 years old.

2016 650s spider here. No corrosion, occasional reboot (hold button for 10 s) of IRIS required when it doesn’t find the tuner.

By far the largest issue is - don’t get to drive it enough.

That’s pretty bad not having the car for most of the summer and no courtesy car either think I’d be after some form of compensation if I were you.

I'm getting a BMW courtesy car when its in for a service ( although have been told if there is a 720 available i can have that as a demo for the 2 days to try and tease me into am upgrade ), Micks got a 570 spider for warranty work and Justin got a BMW for paint / service work ( but i did post, too late as it turns out, he would of got a Mac if he had pushed )

Have no idea why your dealer hasn't sorted this out...have you went to the top of the tree at McLaren aftersales for a response as to why this has happened twice and why they haven't dropped a Mac on your driveway and maybe even a free service or similar for 7 weeks loss of use?

When I found the oxidation last year it was 2 weeks after purchase, on that occasion I was given a 570 spider, this time I dropped the car off on the 7th June prior to my holiday so didn’t require a car. I was told it would be ready for the 1st July. A call came to say it wasn’t ready , it may be ready for the end of July early August and no offer of a courtesy car.

To be honest I was that cheesed off after an initial outburst I have not followed it up, that conversation will come when I have been told it’s ready for collection. It was supposedly escalated to McLaren customer services , I have not been contacted at all.

That's really poor service.

I never let someone escalate things for me...it always seems to 'get missed' somehow.

Its always easy enough to skip a few rungs and get in touch with the person you really want to be dealing with that will make things happen.

I recently had cause to send my 570S back for warranty work just days after I bought it and was fed the Mercedes courtesy car route via McLaren Assist which thought was a piss poor offer as a replacement car. How does a S Class 350D LWB barge ever ever compete with a McLaren.
My selling dealer in Glasgow offered no better option either so in this case I called up McLaren Customer service and politely but firmly told them I expected a similar McLaren in replacement which after a bit of persuasion they obliged albeit a LHD press car.

If your dealer isn't helping your case then call Customer Services, they were especially helpful to me so definitely worth a phone call.

Just a quick update, just had a meeting at Mac dealers and looks like I am going to be put into a 6 month old car 1000 miles with no cost to me at all. Will confirm once 100% but sounds promising.

Is that a loan car, or a replacement full car they are giving you?

I hate using the description "courtesy car" in situations like this. To me, courtesy car is more relevant for when servicing work or accident repair work is undertaken, but when it relates to a new or nearly new car with factory build issues, its a "loan car".

No the 6 month old car will replace the vehicle that is in for repair. It becomes my car for good just a couple of finer points to sort so will know more later this week but as I said does look promising at present!!

That seems to be a good result. Pleased with the outcome?

that would appear to be a more than satisfactory resolution to the problems you've had, nice one.

Now that is a result...glad it could be resolved with a happy McLaren customer rather than the other avenue.

Do tell how you achieved that...it is possibly a route others may have to use in the future.
