Simple question peeps.

I know the 335d was only ever available with the 6 speed ZF auto, but I'm intrigued by the 330d manual with a remap, is it the same box/clutch as the late E46, or a different one?

I know the E46 6 speed is fine on a remap, but the clutch and flywheel cannot handle it when you start getting to 280-300bhp, does anyone have any experience of the E90/91?

Additionally I gather the manual change can be a bit vague, is there any way to tighten it up and make it "snickier"?

330d E90 clutch, flywheel and gearbox are different to the E46. Remap may highlight wear in old drivetrain components, new parts it should be fine.

Manual gearchange is only vague if linkage parts are worn. People will tell you to remove the clutch delay valve. Some like to, others don’t.

I've always preferred a manual gearbox, so if I wanted a quick 3 Series diesel I'd be having the same thoughts!

Although the 335d wasn't offered as a manual, the 335i was and that had just over 300 bhp - I imagine it's the extra torque from the diesel that is the issue for the manual gearbox.

But it's good to hear it should be OK.
