4.3 Vantage. 29mpg
Discussion
Without actually trying to achieve any awesome mpg, my (new to me) 4.3 (2008 MY) has just managed to average 29.6mpg on a 600 mile run from the UK to Switzerland.
Realtime mpg was often showing 33mpg plus on a flat section in 6th moving in traffic at around 55-60 mph.
Is that in anyway normal for a 4.3 or do I possibly have a very lean fuelling issue?!?
After over 350 miles of driving the gauge was almost empty. Brimming it carefully only added about 55litres of fuel which ties in somewhat with the real time readout. And also suggests the 4.3 has a very conservative fuel-remaining warning. (ie it looks like you are out of fuel but still have 20+ litres left).
Other than not being able to use my right foot (traffic a little heavy) how have I achieved this. Is it in any sense normal for the 4.3?

I wouldnt trust the fuel readouts, just the manual calculation of fuel added and distance travelled.
29mpg is more than Ive ever achieved, but Ive never been forced to do say 50-60mph over a tank full of fuel. I think its realistic though.
I regularly see 25mpg on motorway journeys doing 80-90mph. If you think about mixed usage and it does low teens around town, then you need to be getting 25mpg (or more) to see an avg of 18-19mpg which is what it reports most of the time .

That’s exceptional! I recently returned 24mpg average after a 515m trip over 2 days.
I do find the fuel left figures accurate as I remember rolling into a fuelling station with the tank showing “refuel” and gauge going to empty. Beats my previous TVR as that cutout on me while still showing 1/4 left lol

My 4.7 Vantage has averaged 24mpg on similar continental trips - usually a mix of autoroute, country lanes and town driving if that helps - I was pleasantly surprised at that as I expected less!Realtime mpg was often showing 33mpg plus on a flat section in 6th moving in traffic at around 55-60 mph.
