I need to replace a dead fuel pump and also the filter, are there any alternatives to the Bosch/Lucas standard unit?

I changed to a Bosch 044 for higher flow rate after turbocharging, but a) its noisier and b) it has different fittings.

If by alternative you mean cheaper then don't.
Get a Bosch unit from a known TVR parts Co. (there are many copies out there).
They have a hard life in a harsh environment. A short search will find you plenty of other owners with failed pumps.

ETA I have a row of dead ones on my bench. Don't know why i've kept them as I have rarely managed to bring one back from the dead.

I will second that - don't buy off the net, there are hundreds of cheap Chinese copies masquerading as genuine Bosch, and they will break.
I bought mine from a local autoparts place and they bought it from Bosch direct.

I bought a non genuine crankshaft position sensor for my Saab, saved £20. £100 to fit it (It's a pig of a job).
Nine months later it had to be done again, with a genuine one. You do the maths.

Same advice re NGK plugs - only buy from a guaranteed genuine source.
