Overall low cost weekend car

Hi all. I am looking to buy a car for light or occasional use at the weekend. Will only do 2-3k per year in it. Economically (including cost of depreciation) what is my best option? I am thinking a fairly high mileage Yaris. Happy to pay up to £20k but the Yaris would obviously be a lot less than this.

In the interests of disclosure, I have already posted a similar thread, but the responses I got were more focused on the depreciation aspect, whereas I am thinking now of going for something that overall won't cost me much.

A little bit of everything really. Local shops, visiting family, the odd long trip away in the UK.

I really wanted to get a Z4M but the Mrs basically says we can't justify the cost. So now I am looking purely at the financial side of things.

I bought a cheap MX5, fell down a rabbit hole of mods and trackdays.

Now living off supernoodles to fund my habit.

What's your weekday car and why can't you use it at weekends thus saving the need to buy another car just to drive it on 2 specific days of the week for driving to the "local shops, visiting family"?

Bough for £1200, got one of the sills done, battery, hardtop, coilovers, alignment and corner balancing, brakes Inc calipers on all 4 corners, wheels, rollbar, shifter rebuild, all fluids, 3 or 4 more oil changes, few brake fluid changes, 3 or 4 more alignments, 4 trackdays, more brakes, engine mounts, replacement headlights, both sills done (don't ask!).

Probably a few more little bits....

If I totted it all up it'd be about £6k including the track days...

That's a lot of coke/hookers.....

Don't know about you but I still tell everyone 'it was only £500'...

Not to start a debate but there's a girl at my work that leases a 2 series for £525 a month! So it's quite funny I bought a reliable, functioning car outright for less than 1 months rental on hers.

I've already got one supercharged car, so undecided if I want another or a turbo. Ultimately, I'd want a kswap, but I can't justify it.

With regards to the PCP comment... £500 focus has just taken me and a car full to Scotland and back, 1000miles in 5 days. Had it a year, it's had a couple of oil changes (something odd came out at the first one, so I've did another one shortly after, and another one just before the trip) cambelt/waterpump and a pair of droplinks. About a grand in total including the car, and done around 10k in it. Bargain! st slow and boring, but my other cars have been damaged at work so I got this as a no fks given answer to moronic colleagues.
