Staggered by the number of delivery mileage pre-reg cars available on the AUC site at knock-down prices. Is the new Z4 not selling? If not, why not?

I think they haven't generated the buzz that BMW were hoping for; and the looks are a bit meh (i've upgraded this from 'forgettable' after seeing some in the flesh and actually liking it more than I thought I would.)

I too like the look of them, however they are pretty big.

I think that is many models, take a look how many M2 Competitions there are. And that's a far more desirable car IMHO.

I looked at one the other day.

Quite liked it to be honest but price comparable to a Boxster or F-Pace so up against some stiff competition maybe....

It looks as wide as it is long, and very odd from some angles.

£36'000 for a base model 2.0?

The original Z3 was the right idea but they've gone downhill sales wise ever since. Perhaps something in the £25k bracket to appeal to MX5 customers would have been a better idea.

Friend of mine in car trade says its slow in general and some business are adding an extra year to existing PCP deals or something ?

He thinks its Brexit plus the whole petrol / derv or electric thing.

Dunno if true just his opinion

Well I think BMW always have big numbers of pre-reg cars when a new model gets released so they have demonstrators.

But I'm not a fan of the G29 - I'd rather have a Supra! Then again my Z4 is an E86 Coupe. laugh

Maybe because the E89 looked so much better :-)

And I prefer E85, less bloated.

Lack of a coupe and the fact the M2 is a better proposition possibly? I liked the original Z4 but only in hard top. I'm not a convertible fan. I didn't like the folding metal version they did and now they are just soft tops again.

Saw one the other day and it looked absolutely fantastic, whether they drive well enough to justify having one over other competitors is another matter of course - I'd struggle to get away from considering an F-type or Alpine at that money.

Trade magazine had an article on the same topic. Definite trade slow down, exacerbated by Summer holidays etc. There may well be some good deals to be had.

I also believe many people, me included, were disappointed at the looks compared to the show car. As good as it looks in the flesh, it’s not a patch on that.

Pre-reg and demonstrators are different things: Pre-reg are new cars with minimal mileage (usually under 100) that have been registered by dealers so that they can sell at low prices; demonstrators are just that – and typically have mileage around 5,000.

Another vote for the outgoing E89.

It was a gorgeous looking car from any angle, roof up or down.

The new one, just isn't.

No manual option either.

A well-looked after Z4M Coupe offers a far more exciting and analogue experience over the new Z4 variants, and can be had for around £20k, give or take for mileage and spec.

The fact they are depreciation proof, far rarer and much more beautiful items just makes a 36k 2l new Z4 a bad idea, especially knowing it'll shed half it's value in 4 or 5 years.
