5k budget, 4 seats, quick

Currently driving a 1.6 clio mk2, getting a bit old and tired now and looking to replace it.

Budget is around 5k
Must have 4+ seats
Would like something a bit quicker
mpg ideally nothing too horrific as car will be used for daily commute, not too fussed about comfort

Have been looking at Cooper S's, Fiesta STs and Clio 197s, but doesn't have to be a hatch necessarily.

The 130i I really like the look of and hadn't considered, I'll ad it to the shortlist.

Mk5 Golf looks great on paper but my worry is it will be a bit bland. Anyone shed some light on it?

The ST is the better drivers car than the Golf & also benefits from having that sweet 5 pot.
