official 2019 Hungarian Grand Prix Thread ***SPOILERS***
Discussion
So, after the excitement of Hockenheim, time to calm down.
Tight, twisty and generally hot, the Hungaroring has the third lowest average speed of all grand prix circuits. With the reprofiling of turn 1 and other corners in recent years some overtaking is possible, meaning races aren’t always as predictable as they use to be, but in truth it can be a bit of a grind.
It will likely be hot, so maybe a good bet for a Ferrari win. Having said that, Lewis likes it here.

Last year, Lewis Hamilton won a tense strategic battle at the Hungarian Grand Prix to head into Formula 1's summer break with a 24-point championship lead.
Ferrari appeared to blow their best chance to challenge the Mercedes driver, delaying a pit stop for Sebastian Vettel long enough to lose their advantage over Hamilton's team-mate Valtteri Bottas and emerge behind the Finn.

Short straights and low speed corners does not suggest 'Ferrari circuit' to me this season. I think Mercedes will be back at their best but will nonetheless face a challenge for the front row from Verstappen.
The midfield seems to have had a major shake-up as a number of teams debuted big upgrades in Germany. Historically Hungary has been a good race for McLaren, but it'll be interesting to see who ends up best of the rest.

This'll be utter Mercedes dominance I think. They'll be trying extra hard to plaster over the Hockenheim embarrassment. A 1-2 with at least a 10 second lead to the next closest.
I'd like to think RB could shake them up though. Their car could be good here and as we know it's not a circuit that favours power.

I suspect the Red Bulls should do well with a lower power and better grip circuit.
What will be fascinating is to see how Mercedes react to such a poor weekend and whether they bounce back.
Merc have a strong management ethic. They tend not to blame but to find out why. They'll ensure the same sort of thing doesn't happen again, at least as far as possible. Mind you, blaming what clothes you are wearing is not the best way of improving. Perhaps Wolf meant relaxing. There is the thought that Merc could fall apart though, but I can't see it. That said, I couldn't see them having a nightmare at Hockenheim either. What will be fascinating is to see how Mercedes react to such a poor weekend and whether they bounce back.
They'll be back to normal I reckon. It does go to show how much F1 is a team sport.
I predict yet another fascinating midfield battle. I support McLaren and to see them fourth in the table, well clear of their challengers, is a bit of a thrill. It might not last of course, but even so, midway point best of the rest is pretty cool. 16 points covers the rest of the teams apart from Williams of course. It's all a bit hectic for them. One good result and they're running high. One dreadful weekend and they plummet. It's a tough life but great reality TV.
This has been, so far, a fabulous season of midfield racing. I bought FIA live timing as f1.tfeed.net was unreliable and it enhanced the enjoyment no end. Shame it comes in 62 seconds before the NOW tv feed. Not only that, we've had an exciting front end battle for many races.
Ferrari have thrown away/lost races this season despite having what appears to be the fastest car at some circuits. I suppose Merc are entitled to perform badly every now and again, but by the same token, Ferrari are entitled to fulfill their potential on occasion.
Normally it's very hot.
You would think that would play into Ferrari's hand if they can actually get the car to qualifying and not have issues.
The car loves the heat for the tyres but it hates it for reliability.
It will be a Mercedes 1-2 unless Verstappen can get in-between them which could happen.

IF I was Vettel and FErrari, I would've changed every engine component in GermanyYou would think that would play into Ferrari's hand if they can actually get the car to qualifying and not have issues.

This is the first I've heard of any connection between Ferrari reliability and atmospheric temperature..?You would think that would play into Ferrari's hand if they can actually get the car to qualifying and not have issues.

A Flav designed incident?https://www.telegraph.co.uk/formula-1/2019/07/29/r...
And after Hamilton suggested that his illness gave him a real empathy with those in hospital with serious issues - he must have had a really bad cold. Hopefully he has managed to muster the mental strength to get over his cold and isn’t weighed down with the mental scars that such an illness could give him.
“These weekends are sent to try you but what I can say is health is everything," he said. "This weekend I could feel for all the people who are sickly in hospitals, who are going through difficult times. I felt even more for them this weekend just knowing how horrible it does feel being ill.
"Obviously my illness is minuscule compare to a lot of people's but it felt like the world was ending for me for a lot of time. So I have a lot of sympathy for them.

This was such a strange interview. It was a head cold man! “These weekends are sent to try you but what I can say is health is everything," he said. And you know this how? FFS give the guy a break. In his last sentence he isn't exactly maxing his illness, far from it. He says he felt crap and therefore could feel empathy for people who are really ill. And this is wrong because.....Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
