Ive got a 4.7 v8v convertible 09 reg.

I had not washed the car for a few weeks and in the past when the parking sensors have got dirty they gave false positives (presumably dirt on the sensors was being sensed as an object)

When i parked the car the parking sensors worked fine. But when i started in the next day I heard an odd crackling noise coming from the parking sensors.

I cleaned the sensors (and the car) but to no avail.

Since then if i click the parking sensor button it but it flashes red 3 times, and makes a beeping sound and a crackle sound comes from the speakers.

The issue self fixed itself once for about 10 minutes, but has since come back.

Any idea whats gone wrong and how it can be fixed ? Can it be reset via ODB or is new hardware required ?

It’s likely one of your sensors has gone, happened on my MY2010 car (actually twice, one a the front one at the back).

The easiest way to identify it is to switch your car on and put in reverse gear and one by one put an Aston Martin approved toilet roll holder against each sensor. You should hear ticking noise from the sensors, obviously the broken one will be quiet.

You can fix them yourself if you can manage the basics of diy repairs, the sensor was around £43 iirc but may have gone up a few quid since then.

Good luck it’s not the controller unit......

Thanks

Was just watching this video so understand what your talking about re listening for the sound :

Are you able to get to the sensors from under the car or do you need to remove the front / rear bumper ?

The back pair mounted in the metal drop down mounts are the easiest to repair. It still involves taking off the rear under spoiler thing (4 Alan key bolts) and then unclipping it from within. It’s a bit fiddly but doable.

I’m not sure about the outer rear sensors to be honest, the best thing to do is to get the back end up safely (I used two wooden wedge things that lifted the car about 6 inches by reversing onto them) and have a look. I can’t imagine you’d have to take the bumper off to access them but you never know) .

The front outer involves taking off the wheel and then loosening the bumper bar ( a series of bolts, easy to get to’ to get your hand in and remove/replace the broken sensor).

Actually I’ll modify my other post to say it can be diy repair if you don’t mind a bit of fiddle .

Hope that helps, Steve.

I resurrect this post. I thank this forum and the active friends who before me give advice and solutions.

I report my experience with the rear sensors vantage 4.3 2006
Here in Olbia (Sardinia) it rained for two days and I noticed it that in reverse the sensors sounded unobstructed.
I thought they were broken, I just blew on top but it I didn't solve the problem.
I turned on the aston and after a few minutes of travel the sensors worked again
It is as if the sensors dry with the heat of the mufflers or the movement of the car causes the water inside to come out
The strange thing is that if I wash it with a pressure lance this never happens I think because it is immediately dried.

I have had similar problems with park sensors on a 2007 Volvo V70 (same system as the Aston, I believe) and the issue on mine was someone had fitted a new park sensor but the small seal inside the connector socket got lost and they didn't notice. In wet weather moisture thrown up by the rear wheel could get into the connector, which made the system malfunction. I fixed it by fitting a suitably-sized O-ring inside the connector to replace the missing seal and make it watertight again.

I'm not saying that your problem is the same, but it could be explain why pressure washing the actual sensor doesn't affect your system but rain does - perhaps moisture is getting into something else in the system.
