I heard something today that concerned me...
Someone I know runs a business, they use go cardless
Anyways they had a customer that had paid go cardless and they decided that they had an issue. Anyways its a facility business that provides a service and requires routine payments to be made from the client to the merchant. I was told today that the customer has went and used go cardless and taken back 8 payments to their account from the merchant, there seemd to be no control or provision to stop that from happening...
surely not, that cant be so can it ?
I wonder what go cardless has said about this, but it is really worrisome if a client can go in and take back payments, outwith your control.

Its the same for all direct debits.
If you tell your bank there was an error they must give you an immediate refund.
They changed the rules a few years ago to make it slightly easier for a service provider to dispute the claim, but it is still very much for them to prove it was an authorised charge.

Welcome to the world of business. The customer can basically make up any old story and reverse the transaction with their card issuer who in turn goes straight to your merchant account and pulls the money back. The only time its difficult is C&P. Customer not present and you have a big problem.
We are very lucky its only happened to us once in 1000s and 1000s of transactions (said it now..). Oh, and charged us £25 "document charge" for the privilege. We also run 3D secure and postcode / house number check so we have the card holders address if it goes wrong and most of our customers are within 20 mile radius so that helps too.
On the flip side I have used this facility myself a few times when there has been no other option.
