I just plugged my optimate into the charging ports in the car and charging lights on the optimate do not come on, is there a way of charging up the 981 without connecting to the battery direct

CTek do a range of chargers for Porsche that will charge the battery via the 12v cigarette socket.

Mine is wired direct to the battery.

I am sure I have been told that 986/987 had a permanently live accessory sockets but not the 981's

981 will charge via CTEK cigar lighter cable in the 12v socket under the armrest.

I know, as I have both a 981 and a CTEK MXS 5.0 and often keep it plugged in to condition the battery.

Just make sure you connect to the -ve side to the point on the chassis - wiper mount on the 981 or you bypass the battery “brain” and limit the charge the battery will take. Confirmed that there is a change in later 981s that prevents the use of 12v sockets. Long thread with pictures on here somewhere if you search. Also in the manual.
