...unopened, forgotten about at the back of the cool cupboard. What harm can a dob of it do on a Saturday night stir fry.

Well according to my arse...a lot! Three days of radiator-emptying in the bog. On the home straight now but my word what a vicious, evil thing its been.

What other horror stories are there involving the old rusty water?

How can you be sure it was the sauce and not anything else? I would have thought unopened would have been fine.

I have got a tin of ratatouille (Asda) in the cupboard that went out of date in 2006.

I might eat it one day when I fancy it. Could be in 2027 or 2032, who knows as I haven't fancied it as yet in the fourteen or so years it has already sat in the cupboard.

I might not eat it at all and instead make it a family heirloom and pass it down to my children.

it is pasteurisation so no bacteria in it, only taste is effected.

Amateur

The wife decided to eventually embrace salad dressings this Easter

Weirdly they were all a little bit more brown than I thought ideal

A couple of weeks ago I realised that the mustard she'd been using had a best by date of 2007

To the best of my knowledge we're still fine

Our salad dressing are less brown this week and probably a bit less 'complex' in their taste

Cheers

I can confidently declare that the OP's symptoms are minor compared
to a full bedridden week inflicted on myself, by a then girlfriends mother who
served me up a dish of chilli con carne. It was the full tin of uncooked
Chilli beans what did for me. The second helping, despite it's name, didn't. The bh.smile

That is odd. Unless the bottle is damaged in some way there isn't a lot to go 'off'. If the bottle was damaged then you'll have bacteria growing but even so nothing really nasty I wouldn't have thought.
