Hello,

My DB9 was recently at the dealers (Harston) to have some warranty work carried out, which was supposed to include new struts on the boot. I suspect this has not been done.

The point of my post is do the struts on the DB9 boot usually offer very little resistance when closing or should I be on the 'phone in the morning?

Hi, I changed the struts (using O.E. replacements) on my boot lid perceiving them to be weak on my 12yr old DB9. I barely noticed the difference!

Thanks for this guys.

I thought about doing mine - but what is the point if the difference is small. Might as well just make sure to put your hand over it and lift it up.

The difference is whether or not the trunk lid falls on you without warning.
Not as much of an issue with the DB9 as it is a Vantage coupe - the falling boot lid in that car can cleave your neck like it's the French revolution. But basically including strut replacement is preventative maintenance so you won't have to worry about a limb being amputated when you reach for your luggage.

Hi Ben,

What I noticed when I had mine changed is that the boot lid would not fall closed of its own accord. It was sometimes a pain to have to lift / prop open the boot when accessing it before.
It should be almost unnoticeable to lift it close, but it should stay where you put it.
I think they were about £40 for the pair.

Interesting, I wondered if it was a TADT situation.

I suspect the struts may have been done as it feels like it closes slightly more slowly but still very close to being in freefall.

When I had my DB9.1 I also had the boot struts replaced, it was only marginally better with the new struts. However my DB9.2 bootlid seems to be much firmer and there is no danger of it flopping down. Not sure if they are different struts on the newer DB9 might be worth looking into.
