New to DB9 Ownership... few simple Q’s
Discussion
Hello all. I’ve read through the first 50 pages of the forum here and it seems this is the best place on the net for info on AM’s - unless there’s somewhere great I’m missing? From what I’ve read the newer Aston’s seem pretty solid and reliable for the most part, which brings me to the main point...
I am going to be taking ownership of a ‘09 Onyx DB9 Volante in 2 weeks. My main query is around storage. How much do I need to baby it? The first couple of weeks I won’t have access to the garage (a friends) I will be using moving forward. Am I best to sort out temporary storage at a classic car unit? The car is low mileage and has been dry garaged all it’s life (by a relative) and when I take it, I want to take proper care of it and likely won’t sell it.
Am I overthinking it and can it be left outside as it’s modern or should I baby it?
Any tips on new ownership welcome.. and is it fuse 15 or 22 on these? I’ve already bought the cccharger.
TIA

They’re modern cars. Don’t worry!
My DB9 lived outside for 5 years with virtually no issue - the one issue it did have was when a bird crapped on it and it marked the paint.
Other than bird poo the one thing to be aware of is the battery going flat. With my DB9 if I left it for 3 weeks without driving or charging the battery would be flat. So ideally use it regularly or find some way of connecting the trickle charger to it every now and then
It will be fuse 22 on an 09 DB9
Enjoy!

A decent outdoor cover will keep the dreaded bird poo and tree sap off the car. generally, wet weather will not harm it but sunlight has been reported to damage and fade the leather, especially on the dashboard. The maintenance charger is a must as the battery could leave you stranded after just a couple of weeks.
I used a Hamilton Classics outdoor cover when I first bought my DB9, prior to sorting out my garage sufficiently to put it inside where it belongs.
Only problem with a cover, is the car needs to be clean before you cover it, so you may end up washing it before you can cover it.

I would like to keep it in as good nick as it is so I’m wary of doing everything I can to do so. Good to know it wasn’t detrimental keeping it outside though.
I’ll us it as much as possible I.e weekends and evenings and I’ll have it on trickle in the garage so no issues there.
Any detriment to using it in the winter months?

Thanks I’ll look into them, it’ll come in handy. Assume you wash it everytime to not rub dust/dirt against it?I used a Hamilton Classics outdoor cover when I first bought my DB9, prior to sorting out my garage sufficiently to put it inside where it belongs.

I’m concerned about keeping it on the drive consistently however as I feel it’ll slowly deteriorate over the years. It’s somewhat sentimental so I’ll do what I can to keep it pristine.
Cheers
In the garage ASAP and preferably put a dehumidifier in there.
Sun damages the paint and plastic parts (UV)
Moisture damages the seals and felts and will rust all the steel (hence the dehumidifier).
Many will say there is no noticeable damage to the car. If you change it regularly then you wont notice anyway.
However if you are in it for the long term you do need to protect it properly.
I have a twin post lift in my garage and I regularly have it up to give the underside a proper cleaning. The dehumidifier makes a huge difference to maintaining the condition of the car. I've had mine for 8 years now and there is almost no deterioration in the car. It is always garaged and always has the Ctek on it.
I know that it is making a big difference as my everyday car lives out side and it is certainly not looking so good even though it was certainly better rust treated from new than the Aston.

What a great sounding car....
So here is my view.
I've had my DB9 for a 3 years now. I certainly don't baby it. I wash it and keep it clean, but I also drive it quite hard and it seems to like it. I keep it in the garage with a trickle charger on only when I'm away for more than 2 weeks.
These are a fantastic car and mine has been great so far.

Thanks for the input. This seems to confirm my thoughts & plans. I’ll look into the dehumidifier. Sun damages the paint and plastic parts (UV)

Great cars. I used to have a DB9 Volante kept outside. Trickle charger is essential and a cover for the winter especially. Also keep an eye on the proofing on the roof. I got damp in mine when the proofing went and I didn’t realise quickly enough. They can be reproofed easily enough so just make sure it is done when needed. Enjoy it!
If you are really that concerned about keeping it in the best condition possible, and if it's a keeper, then you could look into getting paint protection done. A really good detailing company will get the paintwork looking almost as good as new and then add a PPF or ceramic coating to make sure it stays that way.
Not cheap, and generally people don't bother on older cars, but if you're in it for the long term you might find it worth your while.
My DB9 is a little older than yours and was in good but not pristine condition. First thing I did was get a professional paint correction detail and I was very glad I did, the difference was very noticeable.
As others have said it's a modern car, don't sweat leaving it outside. And don't worry about using it in winter, not using it is probably worse.

But she will be outside just for 2 weeks then garaged right?
If so, I would not bother too much for those two weeks, save for catastrophic weather events (too hot or too cold) and if the neighbourhood is a good one (thinking also about people who does not know how to park) I think you will be just fine.
Congrats on the purchase and welcome!
