Currently selling one of my cars on ebay. Had a bit of interest but one guy in particular seems overly keen and has made numerous offers near the asking price.

The issue is, he supposedly lives in Cyprus, his account shows he was/is based in Malaysia and somewhere along the line there is a UK address in Worcestershire where his wife supposedly lives.

When I called him out on this he did his best to explain the circumstances and was adamant he was a genuine buyer but the whole thing screams of a scam to me. I ended up blocking him but he continues to message me, the last one was asking me to unblock him still pleading that he is a genuine buyer.

Anyone else come across anything like this? Are there any known scams of this sort with Malaysian connections?

Not Malaysia especially
BUT
If it doesn't feel right why take any chances. You are already wary. If he bids n buys and doesn't pay you have the pain of the unpaid case procedure to start up. If your car is fairly priced then it will sell eventually anyway and the person who buys it may just live within a 20 mile radius pops round and jobs done.
I don't sell cars but I have been on there 15 years now with 10 as seller. I get to twig when something isn't right. " summers ago I decided to let one of my old vintage racing bikes go a Peugeot. I stated it was collection only cash on collection. had no end of people saying "hey if I pay for a courier etc etc "all were told NO. One guy even offered to send up a bike box and all I had to do was do whatever needed to loosen some parts so it fitted in the box then message him and he would arrange collection that got a nice polite NO too

Then I got a guy from the university contact me explaining he knew the bike had one at home Liked the bike etc. He came over bought it left me cracking feedback and job was jobbed.

Just ask for a bank transfer into your account, which cannot be pulled back and insist on collection of vehicle.

No risk to you?

This. No Western Union, cheque, bankers draft, Paypal or anything else. A simple bank transfer will work

It doesn't feel right, the first thing that didn't ring true was that he first said the car was to be imported to Cyprus but then seemed to slip up and changed to the Worcester address. He's also given me contact phone numbers and sent me a copy of a utility bill although there was nothing attached in the message.I can only think that his persistence is part of a plan to convince me that he is genuine.

That's the other thing, he only has 4 feedback as a buyer!. My gut instinct from the start is it's some kind a scam but thought I would see if anyone else has had similar hence the post.
