This pr1ck is very obviously short on brain power. What he'll do next time is likely kill some innocent party.
Its a shame he wasn't taken out of circulation permanently and society would have been done a huge favour. The road sign going through the screen would have been ideal, a blue arrow extremely close up before taking him out would have been the last thing he saw..

Are we really sure wishing he was killed, in an accident he almost certainly didn't plan to have, is proportionate?
He's had nearly a year of waiting to be dealt with, now a year off the road and needs to pass an extended test to get his licence back. That's probably a punishment more reflective of a civilised society than the death sentence for the same suggested by some.

He was a young lad who did something daft - probably scared the life out of himself. And now has been banned. I'm not sure some of you are all baying for blood.
When I first brought my car I decided I'd drive a couple of hundred miles to see some friends and family in the North of England. Managed to put it into a wall under a bridge on a motorway! Fortunately, no one was hurt and I managed to complete the drive.
I remember about 6 months later coming up to a roundabout. At the turn before it I managed to slide it 360 degrees. Fortunately no crash again. It was wet but I wonder if there was some diesel on the ground. It was a super powerful 1.1 peugeot 206 so I might not have been able to handle the power.
Oh and I had to retake a test after a ban!
First time I drove a truck I managed to drag a skip into another truck. And I crashed loads of times until I learned what I was meant to do.
All were my foolish actions - and all were irresponsible. But I learned from them and now apart from a stolen motorbike have 7 years no claims discount and a clean license. People are young and do daft things. Give the kid a break.

So, by our democratic (cough) society’s own laws, there wasn’t much more that could be done, especially as our prisons are pretty full.

Should have been a three year ban imo as it could have ended up a lot worse, doubt he would have got jail time.
Will his insurers still pay out for the damage to the van?
