Express - Number plate thefts

Stumbled across this article on my phone this morning, concerning the theft of number plates:

I had to wonder if the person writing the article actually understood how car registrations work in the Uk, when I read:

"Some number plates can be worth hundreds of thousands of pounds which could be a factor as to why they are stolen"

Yes, because if you take the registration plate, then the number automatically becomes yours! - FFS!

Sorry to bring back bad memories!

Their stories keep popping up on the news section on my phone - Quite often with mind blowing information such as:

"Motorists could be caught out by this little known fact - Failing to display a front number plate could get you fined!", or: "Many motorists don't realise that driving without insurance could result in their car being seized!".

They also seem to have launched a campaign to make Megan Markle's life a misery, and blame her for everything - In fact, I'm surprised they haven't blamed her for the thefts of number plates!

I don't normally read past the headlines, but this time thought they might be reporting on some new technology to stop your number plate being stolen, but it was pretty much the same old stuff we've had for the last 20 years.

They talk about buying security screws to mount your number plate with - To my mind it would be just as simple if your number plates are held on by screws, to make sure they're fully secured, and then just round the screw heads out with a drill, so a screwdriver will just spin in the damaged head.

Slow news day No need to print patriotic Brexit bile as Boris has that box ticked, and currently summer weather, so no "worst blizzard since 1963" headlines to churn out

Had my plates nicked, told police, they put a note on the system, had private plates put on the car instead though I could have used my original registration if I wanted to. More the indignity of going to Halfords with no plates on the car, whilst getting them replaced

or perhaps they use a drill to drill the heads off?
