Soon due to a house move (whoo, my first house!) my mileage will be going up from around 6 - 7k a year to around 14-15k a year.

At the minute the car gets serviced once a year at a indy garage I've been using for years. I've sort of decided to keep the car until it dies now, I've had it for six and half years, its worth sod all now (a ten year old Twingo GT 1.2 TCE 100 with 74k on the clock), but its never let me down. Renault call for a service every 12k miles.

I was very temped to get a pela 6000 to suck the oil out at 6000 miles, leave the filter on, put new oil in, and get it serviced at the garage every 12000 miles (so say every 10 months or so - a new filter every other oil change. Always use Renault oem mahle filters).

At the same time I'm tempted to get some ramps, then I could change the oil filter as well, but I might as well just drain the oil from the sump plug then. (the oil filter is right at the back of the engine on the bottom, you have to lift the car to get to it).

The pela and the ramps are pretty much the same price, but its one or the other, I'm not getting both. (not this year anyway.....)

Decisions, decisions......

Ramps every time for me, but why not just get 3m of 1" x 4" a few screws & make your own.

Don't bother just doing the oil and then the filter every second time, do both, if the oil is dirty the filter is badly compromised anyway.

Id probably go with the ramps just because the Pela wont work on every car. Ive used my Pela on lots of cars successfully but it wouldnt work on my A3 TDI. So the ramps had to come out!

Get ramps. I use a Pela to suck out most of the oil then finish by using the sump plug. This means less oil in the drain pan so less chance of mess. Luckily I can reach the sump plug with the car on the ground. One key point is how do you know the Pela tube is reaching the bottom of the sump? Mine is marked ( guess mark by me)to get close but what about obstructions like baffles etc? It is a rigid tube that inserts but....
Change the filter and prefill the new one ( if an angled fit then not full as the angle results in overflow if full). If a sealing/crush washer is on the plug then fit a new one.

Pela every time - you can use it for sucking out the oil filter housing which contains more oil than you think!

Just know the oil capacity when full, know the difference in L between min and max then measure how much you actually have taken out vs what was in there.

Mine has always been spot on fully emptied.
