It saves me from accidentally hitting the Off Switch instead of Escape.

[Running AutoCAD 2020 on a four year old laptop. It bogs down and I have to escape out of commands quite a lot.]

You could just change the function of the power button in settings to "do nothing"....

Also a caddy, I used to pop out the F1 key of my keyboard to save me opening the help dialogue box, 5hen I changed the hotkey setting within autocad.... Now I use autohotkey to change it into another escape key.

Thanks, but it sounds as though that involves brain thinking. I'll give it a go but no one hold their breath, okay?

I'm not optimistic.

I just like st to work and not torment me.

Anyone else come up with any home-spun high-tech enhancements?

Dave.

It's easy, are you on win 7 or 10?

Either way, control panel - power options - choose what power buttons do (left hand side column) - then in the drop downs next to "when I press the power button", change to "do nothing".

I could just tape a small lid over it.

Thanks though. If I change the power button to 'do nothing'...

will I ever be able to turn it on again?

Why did they put the off button right in the way in the first place?

Dicky,
now you need to find a high tech way to stop your talcum powder getting all over your keyboard. wink

Four years of neglect. I know I've had it for four years; my password ends in 15.

I did think about cleaning it before taking the pic but thought the grime added a certain gravity to the situation.

Thanks, Dave. Sorry. Another feeble attempt at humour.

Story of my life.

It needs replacing but my youngest son dragged me out of retirement with a cad job.

I must get on, he'll be progress chasing me.

Interesting job, he's part of a firm installing recording studios all over the show.

Anyone with any more high tech improvements? Lego TV controls? Wooden car repairs?

In one corner of the gasometer site here years ago they had a tree stump in use as a pipe support. Big old pipe too. It had obviously been like that for ages but it did the job.

Correct.

ETA: In my defence they are of 2012 vintage and have had a very good innings
