Strange Noises

I'm getting strange noises out of the old girl (and my 4 litre chim).

First one. When its cold on the over-run I get a high pitched whistle. Is it some sort of pressure release valve for the fuel? It seems to go away once she warms up.

Second one. Every now and again theres a noise that sounds like some sort of spring is returning or something like that. It sonds like 'ching, ching'. It doesn't seem to relate to the potholes in the road of anything the engines doing.

Can anybody help me identify what they are? Sorry about the descriptions - mime never was my strongpoint.

I don't think either of them are serious but for my own peace of mind I would like to know especially before the Le Mans pilgrimage in 2 weeks time.

The high pitched whistle (is it a whistle, or more of a whine?) could be the fan belt whining/slipping a bit (obviously the rubber becomes more flexible as it warms up, so the noise goes away). Check the tension and condition of your drive belt. Could be a slightly dry/worn bearing too (water pump? PAS pump?) or a worn timing chain or sprockets too , though

I get the whistle on the overrun but it doesn't go away! I suspect a plenum/manifold leak or hose. Yours sounds like it could be plenum/manifold as it changes with temperature.
