Buying a car with a mileage discrepancy

Looking to buy an S1 Elise. Looks great. Spoke to the owner who’s had it the last 14 years. A fairly clean looking very standard car.
When doing the checks on it I noticed that 5 years ago the milage jumped from 47k in 2014 to 96k in 2015 then back to 49k the following year.
I can’t see that the car did 50k in a single year and then get clocked. But also it’s going to cast a shadow of doubt over the integrity of the car.
From what I’ve read the milage values cannot be changed once the mot has expired. Could be wrong.
It will always flat up on any Hpi type search so selling it would be hard.
What would you guys do?

I bought a fiesta a while back that had been owned for years. It had a very steady annual mileage , then a ludicrous jump, with a return to normal the next MOT. Unfortunately there seems to be no correction available. I suspect that sudden changes don't flag anything to the tester so what ever they put in gets recorded.
