Mini iPod question

Guys,

Just bought a mini iPod. Does the tracks start downloading automatically from my PC to the iPod?

Is there anyway to stop this and just select the songs I want, rather than have the whole amount downloading automatically when I plug in?

I don't have a iPod but treated myself to the new Sony HD5 which is a great piece of kit. The software that came with it does start automatically downloading as a default however I just stop the download then select which tracks I require. Despite rerading that SonicStage (the sony file management software) was a bit iffy so far have had no probs.
It would seem strange that a track selection facility was not available as it is the basic requirement

yes

connect I-pod

select edit/preferences and the i-pod tab

select update manually

warning, you have to connect the i-pod first which means it will start to update before you change your preferences!
