Hi guys,

Wanted to draw on your knowledge and expertise if I may, i'm looking to purchase a 2008 Porsche 911 3.8 997 Carrera 4S Tiptronic S AWD, I've read various articles and posts on potential issues and design faults but was looking for any insight on Do's and Do Not's and possible issues, any input appreciated thanks.

997 should be a PDK ?

I thought only the 997.2 was pdk? At least, i know it switched at some point, the earlier 997 was a normal tip.

From what I've read, check for sooty pipes or smoke on start up indicating possible bore score

Research bore scoring.

The 3.8 gen 1 is particularly prone to this, especially in tip format. Really don’t think I would go there.

But then we bought a 3.4 tip Boxster

2004-2009 997.1 auto is tiptronic
2008-2012 997.2 auto is PDK

Registrations do overlap.

997.2 easiest spots are redesigned rear lights, touch screen sat nav, Bluetooth etc.

I'd go and have a sit in a 997.1 and 997.2...there was a decent jump in various aspects of the .2 IMO/E. Obviously they cost a bit more...but it's worth it (again IMO).
