I’m having dinner tomorrow evening in Mayfair and would like to go somewhere nice for a few pre-dinner drinks with Mrs lauda.

Does anyone have any recommendations for decent/interesting places in the area?

Thanks, looks good. Champagne or gin for the missus, beer for me. Everyone’s happy!

I wouldn't bother personally, pretty naff and touristy

Fits the interesting criteria and was what I was going to suggest. I'd book though as they don't generally allow walk-ins.

Another alternative is Sketch. Odd cocktail bar with interesting toilets...

Was going to say this.

Only decent bar IMHO, amongst a sea of pubs and sugary baby/daddy places.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The Luggage Room and Sketch both sound interesting but having looked at their websites, I’m none the wiser about what to expect from either. Talk about esoteric!

Damn, could have suggested Novikov downstairs bar, that would definitely have been an 'experience' wink

Sketch is 3 bars, 2 restaurants and a private club. The bars all have a distinct atmosphere and the toilets are probably the most famous feature.

The upstairs restaurant is Michelin star and all in all areas the prices will make your eyes water

Well that didn’t work out quite as planned. Mr Fogg’s never returned my call about a table booking, the rail network was a mess due to engineering works and the weather meaning we were late getting into London and the table booking for dinner was half an hour earlier than I’d thought. Luckily I checked at the last moment.

All of which meant we ended up necking a drink in some grubby boozer on Duke Street. At least the meal was good!

Thanks for all the suggestions though.

Foggs is nothing special really. Its just a London chain that due to its locations and general ambience is a step up from all of the other chains

For a real decadent drinking experience in Mayfair the hotel bars are the places to go -

American Bar at the Beaumont
The Bar at the Dorchester
The cigar bar at Claridges
Coburg bar at the Connaught
Donovans bar at Browns
Dickies at Corrigans (ok thats not a hotel)

They’re not exactly “date night” bars though. Unless you’re 78 years old
