UNBELIEVABLE ACT OF VANDALISM!!!

I got back from Thruxton yesterday afternoon and just as I was unloading the car I was greeted by a wail of police sirens and three cars pulled up outside my house! :yikes:
The first copper that jumped out asked if I had heard anything to which I replied no then three of them scattered off in different directions looking for a group of kids??
About twenty minutes later they all returned and the first copper came over for a chat and explained that kids had completely trashed the house opposite me which had been empty for a couple of months!!
A neighbour reported the smashing of glass etc and said that there was smoke coming from the chimney of an empty house!
The copper said you really need to go and have a look to see for yourself.... so when I did what i found was shocking!!

Some makeover. Strange it was empty so long. Did the alarm not work?
The house is behind a really tall hedge so is really obscured from vision the entrance is at the entrance to my road so didn't really see the people when they lived there so no idea why it's empty?
The alarm panel was lit up but obviously not working for whatever reason.

The owners of the property were law abiding citizens who left their property empty for a while (they are within their rights to do so) and some local maggots decided to trash it. How is that their fault?
That is disgusting. Sad thing is, we probably have some bearded lentilists somewhere who'd look at this thread and bang on about 'social inclusion' and 'anticapitalist subprotest' or some such bollox.
Well I don't know about you mate, but when I see shocking acts of pointless, motiveless vandalism like this, I am past understanding and past caring. There was a 'line' drawn at your gate and they crossed it.
I wish I could see them, all in green overalls, chained together at the ankles, helping the decorators and glaziers repair your house whilst their parents footed the bill, but it won't happen.

When I was about 9 or 10 I went up as usual to see our horse which we kept in a field next to an old family friend's farmhouse and outbuildings. They had moved out about a year or so previously and it had lain empty ever since, but still in 100% order.
One day I had a catapult with me and I don't know why but I decided just to take out one of the small windows on a barn, I think I must have got some kind of rush from that as I then proceeded to take out every single pane of glass I could see.
Mistake, big mistake. My old man had came back from seeing our horse and he wouldn't have needed to be Mr S. Holmes to have a good idea it was me considering we were from a small village, virtually zero crime, and I was one of the few people ever up there.
Anyway I coughed. Retribution was duly meeted out, nothing physical (as always), more mental torture for weeks on end , grounded and also hit in the pocket. My old man paid for the entire place to be re-glazed and I also had to be the gofer boy for the glaziers.
Somehow I can't see the same thing happening with these guys, this really looks like wanton destruction and the chances of their folks paying for the damage out of their dole money ?, Survey said ........<0> Brrrrr Brrrrrrr

The owners are not 'at fault'. They may be a touch naive, or stupid, , and maybe not in tune with the real world, but they are not 'at fault'. To say such implies that not all the fault lies with the vandals, which it does 100%.

Did they keep the paintwork and roof in good order, free of decay or leaks? Were they selling the house and left keys with an estate agent? Did they alert their neighbours they would be away for a long period and could they keep an eye on it because with no curtains or furniture it may look abandonded to passersby or thieves? Did their neighbours care? Was Neighborhood Watch in operation in that area or street?
As I said before, what did they expect? It could have been thieves removing fitments rather than a bunch of kids with a baseball bat.
I think you are missing the point . Yes all those things should you list could have been done, however we do not know the circumstances of the house being left empty. It could be a rental property, or subject to probate after a death, whatever the reason wanton vandalisum has no excuse. To say we are at fault, you are correct, because if we punished these mindless yobs properly there would be less of them doing it. If every Graffiti vandal had to pay for the damage they caused perhaps their expressions would have more meaning to them. If this house was in Singapore do you think it would be damaged at all, no, yet we think they have got it wrong because they punish with more force than us.
There are no excuses, no justification for this at all.

I didn't say the vandals shouldn't be punished, but life is never that simple. Did neighbours not hear the windows being broken? If they did, how long was it before the police were called? The vandals managed to do a lot of damage unimpaired. Is there not a community there that cares? Like a car left by the roadside gathering dust that gets vandalised, the house appears to be long abandoned, an attraction to thieves.
I think the problem is that there's a climate of fear surrounding criminals. Unfortunately, if you report someone for smashing windows, police powers and public protection mean it'll be obvious who 'grassed them up', and the lack of punishment they receive will mean that YOUR windows end up getting smashed.
This shouldn't be the case, but this is unfortunately what happens in a country where criminals are nurtured from birth by having their rights put on a pedestal without even a smidgin of what 'responsibilities' are. Then bear in mind that these teenage tearaways have kids when they're still tearaways, then bring up pre-tenn 'untouchable' tearaways who simply continue the cycle.

I think there were two separate vandalism 'operations' at work. I think some 'professionals' broke in and stripped the place, probably not making much sound, whilst the window-smashing was probably the tearaway kids I was referring to. They probably caused the noise and, somehow, the Police got there so someone must've called them.
My problem with the situation is what the vandals will do after they've been dealt their slap on the wrist.

I really hope all this talk of reintroducing the chain gang type thing, community service with orange coveralls and that actually happens. If they won't physically punish the little shits that do this sort of vandalism then they can at least put them to work cleaning up, removing grafitti, etc in their own community so that their mates can see how humiliating it is to be forced to clean up their own mess.
