Need some inspiration on my next car choice. I currently have a Porsche 996 C4S for general use and a Lotus Exige V6 for track use and fun Sunday morning runs.

I’m looking to swap the Porsche for something else as I fancy a change.

I have two budgets: the first is roughly £20k for something rare / unusual. Currently on the list is a Clio V6 Mk1 and a Mazda RX-7. Both have their flaws but both interest me. I think I prefer the RX-7 but worried about the reliability of it for general use.

Second budget is £10-15k to free up cash for work on the house.

Currently on the list is an E46 M3, Honda S2000 but neither really interest me that much and neither are rare.

I’m not keen on big heavy cars such as the e92 M3 or estates or saloons. Coupes or hatches is fine.

I don’t do huge miles prob only around 5k as I commute by train.

So, what else should I consider...

I would choose the "second budget" and use the remaining cash for the house and so on. But that's just my two penneth.

With said budget, and having glanced at the PH classifieds, the following did seem of interest. Apologies if wide of the mark. Given that you also have the Exige, I assume that you might be interested in something with a bit more utility than your Sunday track car.

Alfa Romeo Alfa GT V6
BMW Z4 coupe
Renault Megane Renaultsport
Subaru Impreza WRX
Vauxhall Monaro
Volkswagen Scirocco

Impreza/Evo? Surely worth a look.

I have an E46 M3 vert, it’s an amazing car and I would highly recommend one. I keep thinking of swapping it for a 996 funnily enough, I had a 996 back around 20 years ago for a couple of years and I miss it al lot.

I would choose the second smaller budget also , and get in to a Maserati 4200GT,

This one has been for sale a while and I am sure you could beat them down on price even more

Going on your lower budget a Z4 Coupe would work, but towards the top end of it a Z4M Coupe might be better!
