Putting this out to fellow VW Dub GTI followers.
Only had the car 12 months from censored
My golf is using 3/4 litre of oil every 350 miles, replace the breather unit 2 months ago but no difference.
Not seeing excessive smoke thru the pipes, a bit on full boost and the engine spec EA888 Gen 2 CCZ is not showing an issue with piston rings but thats not saying there could be an issue.
My only thinking is the turbo but these don't normally need replacing till 90k, my car has done 58k.
Any thoughts gratefully excepted

Moderator edit. No name and shame.

That's a very high oil consumption. Are you seeing the smoke from inside the car or from a following car? If you're seeing your own smoke then it's probably heavier than you're imagining. Get somebody to follow you to see how bad it really is.

Hi , No smoke when idling, you see some when it idling and you press the accelerator down to 4k, oil is 5w-30 but have just changed to 10w-40 as VW spec this as acceptable in all temps

Hi, if i put it in 3rd and gun it you will see what appears to be a fine mist/smoke thru the back window, they are tinted so it's difficult to pick it up plus at 5-6k in 3rd dont fancy taking too much time looking in the rear view mirror, knowing my luck will bin it into a ditch lol

It is high, but the vag spec used to be 1l per 600miles was within tolerance,. So only a little more than spec.

Why were you using oil thinner than VW recommend?

Also, ¾ litre in 350 miles is LESS than 1 litre in 600 miles. So even with a thinner oil your oil consumption is within limits.

Thats approx. 1.25ltr/600mile so 25% above spec which is shocking to begin with, who on earth would accept topping up with 20ltr of oil over the course of an average year?

Are you sure? Can you show your working?

750mls in 350miles is 2.1mls per mile.
1000mls in 600 miles is 1.6 mls per mile.

OP's consumption is significantly worse than 'spec'

Its either leaking out or being burned. That's a horrendous consumption rate and needs attention...

He wasn’t. 5w30 is the “correct” spec.
