My 'new' car was registered in October 2000, but the engine serial number says that it was manufactured in 2001. Does anyone know if Porsche replaced the original engine and if so how can I find out (I only have history from the last 5 years).

Does the engine number say it was manufactured in 2001 or does it say it a 2001 model year engine? (Not a rhetorical question, I don’t know the answer)
The reason I ask is because a October 2000 registered car could be 2001 model year.

Hi Scrump. It says that the engine was manufactured in 2001 but the logbook states that it was registered on the road in 2000.

The year code in the chassis number refers to model year rather than actual year of manufacture so I still wonder if the engine number is similar.
Edit:
A quick google shows that the engine number may well refer to model year rather than manufacture year.

Hi Scrump, I have just checked the chassis number and that also comes out as a 2001 model, but it was registered in October 2000.

Likely to be the original engine then.
As I said this is because the year code refers to model year.
