Help! - Does anyone know what the bearing(s) on rear axle are neareast the wheel that hold the hub - mine I think has all but collapsed and I'm stranded - I have taken off the Brake disc and the axle is as loose as hell (wobles) - I need to know where to get some new bearing(s) from - are they std ford parts or anything?

Sorry guy, don't know, have you tried tighening the centre nut up? It should be about 220lb/ft from memory (can dig out info if you want?).

I'd guess it'd be a ford part as I assume the hubs are ford (4 stud pattern)

Mine came loose! It got so wobbly it affected the brakes (pushed the pads away from the disc...soft pedal)

I have tried tightning the centre nut - which Has stopped the wobble but then it came loose again - how ever I didn't have the right tools to do it up really tight - 200 lb ft seems very high - the wheels nuts are supposed to be around 90 ib ft or so I'm told. Thanks for the prompt replies - Hopefully i might be able to limp to West tunning so that I can get the hub off and have a proper look - I don't have a puller.

Ahh blast about 200 lbs ft - Thanks for looking my torque rench only does a max of 150 ls ft.

Martin what was the cause of yours - collapsed bearing or did it simply come loose?

It' either worked loose or came loose from the factory. Bob sent me out a couple of spare nuts, and since replacement there have been no probems. I just did mine up FT, no torque wrench.

Guy, the rear nearside wheel nut should be 270nm, if it works loose usually means the nut has stretched, get a new one from the factory and use locktite when fitting.

Is this the thing that kept coming lose on his (er my) car?

If so the underlying cause was knackered drive shafts that were vibrating it loose all the time.

Not quite, the underlying problem was a worn hub carrier that caused the lock nut to come undone.

It just happeend to be diagnosed whilst the drive shafts where being replaced.

Well I have got round to the local ford dealership today and got a new nut - put it on and all seems well - although I'll have to stop off at West's to get the tension fully up to the required setting but I think there is no real damage - I do however need to bleed the brakes....
