The 2005-2018 Vantage looked pretty much the same through its whole production run, apart from some specials and some color flare and lipstick.

among the different looks, what is your favorite look?

To me is any of the wider grill ones, such as the V600 and AMR concept and of course the Zagato, even though that is a full rebody.

I can't help but feel that this is what Aston should have done with the design. Basically keep the same body shape and just update the rear and front and air vents etc. Give it the wider and taller grill, some modern air vents on the bumper, modern tail lights etc. Update the mechanics too of course. It could be a totally new platform. I'm not saying they should have carried on facelifting the Vantage. I'm talking design only.

The Vantage is still one of the most beautiful cars ever made and it still looks attractive today. It could look very contemporary with just a few small changes like the above.

The more I live with the new Vantage the more I see the old one is more beautiful. I hate the front of the new Vantage. I think they should have done something more like the DB10. The most beautiful Aston on sale today in my opinion is the DBS Superleggera. And an old shape Vantage with the wider grill and air vents would look very similar. Definitely better than the new Vantage in my opinion.

interesting you should post this

I have a 17 V12VS and recently damaged one of the side sills

my car has the carbon grille (although it had a six slat bright finish grille when I purchased it)

I am replacing them with the original sills from the 07-10 series vantages as I think thats the best look

so that's my view on what looks good on the 07-18 Vantages

Fully agree, AM should have taken a page out of Porsches book - evolving a timeless and superb design while investing in technology. Now we have neither.

Let's just hope they don't sell the design off to a Chinese buyer to bridge the financial gaps that will inevitably appear. It's already frustrating enough to see the latest Fords driving around with a lookalike AM front...

I thought it was just me that saw the vantage grill in the new fords,
I think if they had wanted to upgrade the new vantage, they should have kept the front like the DB10.

Sorry the shut line and the lights, just don't do it.

As said earlier the shape hardly changed in 10 years, it didn't need to, Now they are already tweaking the bonnet vents and will probably have to do a whole front revamp to possibly get the sales moving.

I prefer the MY2012 onwards revision, with slatted bright finish grille, earlier sports pack wheels were my favourite.

The 2006 Vantage was the prettiest, everything since got gradually less so. The last few years really nosedived, AMR Pro, V600, GT8, GT12, all tacky attempts to fix what wasn't broken. IMO obviously before the opinion police get offended. No idea why the new Vantage is slated so much with these visual howlers in the recent back catalogue.

The external appearance of the V8V, apart from roof aerial and wheels, remained the same from release in 2005, until the model year 2012.25 changes.

N400 side sills crept in to V8 cars. V12V, although more purposeful had the marmite vents and flared sills. As I said, gradual decline, from a very high point obviously.

Yes, I understand your point, but I was only thinking about the standard V8V. Customers could buy a new V8V with an all original body for the first seven years of the model run.

Interesting that after so many years, the V600 reverted to the original sills and now Graze01 intends to replace the sills on his V12V with originals. Ian Callum knew the way to draw attention to the wide rear wheel arches.

Most car manufacturers do face lifts during their model runs, so I suppose it was inevitable for the Vantage to revive interest and push sales.

Age brings lack of familiarity - and in cars - that's a good thing. This is why we see older objects as beautiful again - because we reduce our familiarity with them on a day to day basis as things change. I'd argue the newer incarnations of vantage are just as beautiful - but that original 05/06 launch design looks spectacular. I'd argue it's probably because I don't see it everyday. I suspect when the new Vantage becomes a more common sight, the outgoing variants (GT12's/V12V's etc) will become "more pretty" because we have less familiarity with them.

I also prefer the original sills. I actually agree the original cars are the best look, the whole car apart from the grill. Ford ruined that by making the original Vantage look like a Ford from the front. The wider grill from the V600, Zagato etc fixes that while giving the car a slightly more updated look.

So my favorite looks has to be the V600. Wide non Ford grill, original sills, understated looks, still classy. Followed by the original look. My least favorite looks are the riced up boy racer looks with wings, flaps etc like the GT8, GT12 etc. An Aston is not a Honda and should not look riced up. It should look classy IMO.
