Hi all,

My car is on the drive and connected to a battery conditioner . All good .

Can i leave the boot on the “latch” as it were and it be fully waterproof when it rains? I don’t want to fully close it as it will nick the wire .

I’m sure i read somewhere it can .

Mines in the garage but on the charger with the boot (coupe) fully latched - the rubber seals are quite thick, I just check the wire is not trapped by gently pulling it a centimetre or so after shutting the boot - hope it helps, Dave

I fully close mine with the wire in place. The rubber seal is pretty thick and the gap between the boot and top of bumper is big enough not to pinch the wire.

I could leave mine open as it's in the garage but OCD takes over and I don't like seeing the car with the boot open......

I have one of the Aston branded Ctek chargers and fully close the boot (Vantage Coupe).
I have noticed with mine that even after 2 days the charger orange light is still on. How long does it take everyone else for the green light to come on?
My car did get a new battery at the Aston dealership just over a year ago.

I had the same originally it may be its not making a good connection with the socket, give it a little twist.
Then press mode button to put it on the car image.

Will do, thanks.
I must admit, it doesn't feel like it goes into the socket in the boot very well.
I might try it in the socket in the cabin and see what happens.

Ooh, pedantic vous.
Listen rasher , trying to give this geezer a bit of loving assistance and you have to butt in.
OK then 2 minutes, but not 2 bloomin days.
If I asked you how long you could keep an erection going you might say 2/3 minutes not 2 bleedin days.

Not all interior 12v sockets are permanently live, if yours isn't this might not work. wink
I'm another 'shut the boot' type, been doing that for a couple of years now and all seems fine, and again, 'less than a few minutes' to go green. rotate

The charger lead can always be left in situ with the boot firmly shut -especially if you pass the lead through the part of the boot adjoining the light clusters.
If you're worried about damaging the lead then just put a piece of electrical tape round the lead where it goes into the car.
Light up times depend on many things including the model of charger. If its Aston ( CTEK ) and the " old " model 3800 with 3 lights then it goes green pretty quickly depending on the level of charge - on my Quad bike for instance it goes green almost instantly.
If its the MXS 5 model then it can take a while for the first 3 -say 5 minutes ( depending on charge ) and then anything up to a few hours to get all lights up culminating in the final green.
If it takes 2 days of staying orange then I would say there something wrong.

Make sure there’s some slack between the boot socket and the rubber boot seal. Sometimes closing the bootlid can dislodge the connection when the bootlid closes.

This model is the successor to the Aston Martin branded charger, which was the new car option.

When my AM original eventually failed, I replaced with this one and it works fine.

Edit - I am losing it, forgot to post the link.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-MXS-5-0-Reconditions...

Expect you will also want the cigar lighter connection wire.

I remember when I needed the replacement, someone on here very kindly posted that Amazon had a black Friday type sale, which turned out to only last a few hours. Think it cost me less than £40.
Satisfying to 'beat the system' very occasionally.

CTEK MXS 5.0 - Amazon along with whatever accessories you need - price varies but around £60ish.
