Have got an M2 on order, but been offered a 2013 V8 Vantage by a mate which im very tempted by.

Is there anything I need to know before taking the (very brave!) plunge?

Car has 44k on the clock and is a manual.
Has full AM history and has a been ceramic coated.

Has 5 months AM warranty on it still - can this be extended?

Warranty extension should be fine and a 2013 car with 40k miles is nothing to worry about.

I would just review service history, see if its had a clutch, and what condition tyres/pads/discs are in. If any of those are due could be worth negotiating in the price.

As you should be, tempted that is! 44k is nothing to concern yourself about with these cars, and the AM warranty is extendable, on a yearly basis.

Yep called Aston and they said warranty extension is £1500 - warranty on my ols M3 was £1200 for a far lesser car!

Issue I currently have is that I have an M2 on order … always liked the M2, but this is a bloody Aston!!

Should add, he wants £43,500 for the car - is that a reasonable price?

Is this a new M2 then? If so there is nothing brave about getting the Aston at all. They're reliable cars, servicing isn't that much more than an M car, and while a 2013 car isn't old enough to have bottomed out depreciation will be very reasonable.

Factor in depreciation and you can pretty much guarantee the Aston will much, much cheaper to own. So it's not brave, it's the financially wise decision.

Next service is £720 - which isn't mad in the grand scheme of things.

I think my issue is I usually spend months researching - but this has come up out of the blue, so very much a steep learning curve!

Price looks about spot on compared to others on the market around that age/mileage etc, so really its about the history and consumable condition e.g. are there any big bills on the way for you in the next 6-12 months....

That sounds like a great deal! Bought mine last year, a MY11 with 15 k km on the clock 1 year AM full coverage. Have been driving 10k over the last 14 months and no issues what so ever, rock solid. The sound of an old-style V8, the drive, the feel and the brilliant design... unique package that makes driving it feel like a special occasion every time again... .

The Vantage is a treat to yourself and very much the emotional choice for a car that provides an experience that will disappear fast given where cars are going, M2 is a great car and the rational efficiency choice. The latter will be plentifull available going forward in some shape or form.. Go Vantage!

That's a bloody good point.... the M2 will def be more plentiful going forward!

Like your thinking on that.

Love affair with aston started about 10 yrs ago …. crossed at a zebra crossing... aston let me cross - then he pulled away at a reasonable speed, and the noise was like 'I must own one'.

Clutch hasn't been changed as far as he is aware.

How long do they last - and how much are they should the worst happen!

About 45k laugh

It depends on the previous owner(s). Anything from 20k- 85k (Bogie IIRC)
Clutch is anything between £2.5k - 3.5k depending on type of clutch replacement and where - main dealer vs independent. Most of the cost is labour as torque tube etc needs removing as gearbox is at the rear.

So its one of those ones where there is no real guidance smile

When I bought my 911 turbo, clutch went after 3 weeks! Lucky bought from a dealer who went halves - though still think they should have paid up for it in total!

The clutch in my first Jan 2006 Vantage lasted 8 years, over 75k miles then traded it in at 83k miles

Then I bought a Dec 2012 Roadster with 32k miles on it, had a clutch at 30k miles so figured I dont need one for a long time ......

Clutch went couple of years ago at 52k miles ...well it was the release bearing failed rather than worn out clutch ....£3500 bill at main dealer.

So you can never be sure frown ...if its on original clutch at 40k miles thats a good sign, but likely you are going to be the owner that gets to replace it in next few years......

If your friend has looked after the car well, then the price seems very fair for 2013 Vantage.
You should not lose too much either, because a good 2006 Vantage still cost in the region of £30,000.
My own is a 2009. Has only needed a clutch. Nothing else unexpected and condition still as new. They are beautiful cars to own.

You will have to get used to being let out of side turnings. Aston Martins are well regarded by many motorists.

One of my cars is an E30 BMW, but I have no interest in buying any of the current range. There are just so many BMWs now on the roads.

Same here. Aston of some sort pulled past me whilst I was walking recently and it sounded glorious cloud9

Orders can be cancelled, no?
Hell, while I might be an one-eyed Aston owner, if I was offered a straight swap for my 2007 Vantage and a new M2, there`s no way I`d be parting company with the Aston! A glorious car, beautiful to look at, hilarious to listen to, and great fun to drive, an all round special machine as has already been touched on, and if you can scratch that itch, by all means scratch away!
Look, I doubt you will get anybody on the Aston forum saying "Are you mad!! Buy that M2 and dismiss these illogical thoughts!"

Re: Clutch... There is an outfit in Halford known as Bamford Rose, AM specialists that tickle up your Aston at not outrageous prices. If you need a clutch, they can replace the standard part with a twin-plate unit AND lightweight flywheel for similar to what you`ll pay for the standard job at an AM dealership, and the twin plate has twice the life. Win win.

All of the above.

Plus, a Vantage evokes an emotional response that the BMW just can’t do.

Answer this question. When you look out on your drive or open the garage door, what would you prefer to see?

I can’t think of many people who’d say an M2, good though they are, over a Vantage.

Seems a great price for a Vantage S - the price he's offering it at would normally just get you a standard model Vantage, even with the slightly higher miles. Allow £3k for a new clutch though.

Looking out of my window, seeing an Aston there might well lead to drool on the windowsill - and neighbours wondering what the hell im doing!! But totally get your point, the M2 is a nice car, looks good, goes well - but its a jumped up 2 series, no matter how you sell it.

Had an M3, and it was a fast 3 series coupe - and had zero emotion about it.
