Is it just me......Petrol Nozzle Difficulties

Having owned my Chim for the grand total of 4 months, I'm still struggling to fill the bloody thing up with petrol without setting the auto stoppy thing off in the pump.

Is it just me, or is there a knack to doing it?

It get's a bit frustrating taking all day to fill the thing up, especially as I have to do it twice a week

They are very slow fillers. I've found a garage en route to work where I can fill her up at full speed. All the rest, so far, a bit of a drag. Peter

It's difficult no matter where you point it but experience tell me to twist the nozzle round so that the bottom of the trigger is pointing towards the drivers side rear lights. I normally squeeze the trigger about 3/4 and live with a slow fill.

They all do that. Go slowly and watch out for dribbles on the paintwork when you withdraw

iI had the same problem until my first post here

handle towards the back of the car insert by wiggling and a gantle round to perpendicular to the car and he presto.

works fine - a bit of technique tho

My first Chim was a right pain, the second was better.

The Tuscan is much easily to fill up <- there is your solution!!!!

I may have found an answer! Well it worked on mine today............ I was in a hurry and the only space was on the wrong side of the car, so I stopped with the pump on the drivers side and stretched the fuel pump line accross (minding the paint of course) and filled up...not a splosh anywhere. Straight in and no volcano of petrol on the car, in the boot or my trousers.
Try it..you might like it!

Let me know as I have yet to do it a second time.

I remember soon after gettin mine, i was at the local Texaco, hood down, feelin all proud of me new toy . A family in a people carrier pulled up next to me, i could see they were lookin, chin up and feeling smug i continued to fill the car and out of the corner of my eye i could see the adolescent boys in the car pointing... i carried on, their dad paid and drove off before i realised that about 5 squids worth of fuel had ran out of the cap down the boot edge and was forming a large puddle on the forecourt....

Ever since that i fill her slowly (ooer)

you can do it from the right side and I forgot to mention that you'll know when it's in properly as whenh you wiggle, it goes in another couple of inches.

Don't have any of this trouble at all... I can just put the nozzle in from any pump, squeeze it till the lever hits the stop, and wait for it to click off... job's a good 'un

No problems for me either??? Just be careful putting it in and then wiggle it til it's all the way in - trigger facing backwards and away you go.

Make sure the boot lid is fully open. The gas strut doesnt lift mine all the way and needs to be pushed open the last couple of inches. This greatly improves the access to the filler and I dont have any problems.

Sounds like you may not be getting the nozzle all the way in to the filler. It's a bit awkward. The pipe that leads from the filler cap to the tank is boxed in with some carpet. If you pull that off, you can see the shape of the pipe and it's much easier in the future to picture the angle you need to insert the nozzle at.
