Spring id too small??

Just thought I would try one of my new front springs on the chassis as a trial run before re assembling it all, and it seems to be a real tight fit over the four locating tabs on the top support. I know it should be tight but this seemed way too tight so on checking the original springs there seems to be a difference in that the original tapers off to a square, the replacement ones I have are still rounded. This makes a couple of mill differance from what I can tell and must make all the difference when fitting them.
Has anyone else come across this problem? is it a problem or will they fit ok once they are compressed?

The springs are from a well know supplier so I guess they should be ok.....shouldnt they? :rolleyes:

You wouldn't be the first person to have trouble with aftermarket springs. I'd probably tickle them with an angle or die grinder, but I couldn't possibly recommend such an action.

The front springs on mine are very very tight as well, but seat correct and quickly when the spring tension starts to build up. Have the heavy duty springs, probably from RT (don't know as they were sourced by the specialist in Holland that got me these). Replacement was required as one spring was broken. Just had all the stuff off to rebush and replace all ball joints. Perhaps 'adjusting' the 4 metal pieces with a hammer could help. I would rather do that, then doing something to the springs.

Thanks for the replies guys, I was toying with the idea of the angle grinder but think I will give the afore mentioned supplier a call first. I don't fancy bashing the chassis for the sake of £50 worth of springs!

Has anyone brought a good pair of springs that just fit straight on with no ride hight or fitting issues or is this just wishful thinking!

Wedg1e, I will have those Koni's for you at BBWF if you still want them?

I've got a pair which have been fitted for a short mileage so should be ok. Give me the diomensions and I'll double check them for you.

got a nice pretty set of red ones from David Gerrard (01386 793237), went straight on. mind you the car is still lower at the drivers side so i guess the bodies not on straight cause the chassis seems to be ok!
