Hi ...just want some input on a couple of things.I have a 718 Cayman with pdk.The gear changes are often noticeable and there are
distinct vibrations on changing up at certain speeds ...like 60mph 6/7 gear every time when driven gradually to that speed ...not flooring it which I never do.Could there be a fault with it rather than what I'm being told is just a "characterstic" of mine .I've not noticed it on other test drive cars ....the changes have been almost undetectable to the ear
The other issue is the hot oil smell. When driven for a decent run the car smells of heat/ hot oil coming from the rearwheel arches as the heat has to dissipate somewhere but I get a milder version of that in the cabin....so no
leather seat smell after a journey ..just that hot smell.
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.. thank you

Lol.....I drive it conservatively ....and just asking if the heat smell is not isolated and whether it's possible to have a faulty PDK....or whether they just vary a bit and mine is just not as smooth as others

That hot oil smell has always been part of the joy of Porsche ownership for me.

The hot oil smell? That's just the smell of pork. It's quite usual and as mentioned, is a joyful reminder of that drive you just had. Can't help with the PDK thing as mine doesn't do that. However, mine is a 987.2 not a 718. I don't see how that should make a difference but others may come along and tell otherwise.

When I first owned a 987.1, I got a few weeks of burnt rubber smell at the end of a journey. 'That's quite usual sir and will go away eventually'. I presume it isn't that?

Regarding the smell, could it be hot coolant? I had a problem with my 718 coolant sensor. There was a disconnect between it and the header tank. With this and overfilling with coolant due to there being no reliable manual indicator of the coolant level, there was coolant loss. This could be smelt mostly around the drivers side rear of the car and also to a smaller degree, in the cabin.

PDK issues don't sound normal. Well, you know that from driving others.

Take it back and get them to fix it, or give you a refund.

Oh yes. I’m just a young pup in terms of Porsche ownership - I’ve had two PDK 981 CGTS, but I completely get this.

That smell makes me feel alive.

Thanks guys for your input and thoughts ....the smell is obviously supposed to be there .
The pdk has been checked and tghey say is totally fine but the geometry of the wheels was out and so that's been done and I collect it later
Car has always felt the same from day one and I don't recall ever banging a pavement curb stone or falling into a pothole as deep as the grand canyon ....we shall see
Thanks again
