Western Union Payment

I've never used Western Union for payment or receipt. Someone who owes me money has just advised he's made payment to my bank via Western Union. Feels scammy but what is the possible scam here? I've no idea why he didn't just do a normal bank transfer, but then I caught him out trying to scam me so maybe he's trying to get his own back.

As said western union is a bit third world, huge lines outside the ones where I live every pay day, no bank account no address, but it is fast ands not a scam in itself, I used it once when my daughter was robbed when she lived in Switzerland, she then walked into a branch and picked up money I'd sent so she could get back to Uni from Italy.
I would probably ask myself why a debtor is using it, most likely explanation, to me, is he has cash and doesn't want his bank to get there hands on it, either because his source is questionable or they would hold it against an overdraft.
Its also easy if you live in a country with foreign transfer controls, mew regulations where I live mean that bank transfer requires a 180 km round trip, so I'm thinking about using WU to pay for a central heating upgrade currently being done on my UK house.
