I can't seem to get the search facility to work so forgive me asking a question I know has been asked before...

I intend to proof the hood with Thompsons water seal this w/end after washing it with no more than a sponge, car "shampoo" and water, then shammied dry. Is this alright?

Should I be doing anything more? (Don't really need Renovo or similar as hood looks OK, just a little faded) Thanks in advance!

Sounds fine to me. Make sure the hood's dry before you put the Waterseal on and it should last you most of the winter -- or three months at least.

On a similar note, if anyone has a tin of blue Renovo and dark blue carpets then the renovo is great for touching up the faded bits. Did mine last weekend. Just don't spill any on a light coloured carpet - it works like dye.

I'm a big fan of Renovo - people keep asking about my 'new' hood.

Haven't used Thompsons so can't advise, but other people seem to rate it highly. I've only ever used Fabsil or Renovo's waterproofer & anti fungicide, both of which have been equally as good.

Where can you get Renovo? I'm more concerned about appearance than waterproofing - I've got autoglym or wotever its called for that.

Many thanks guys. Just hope I don't spill a load over the paintwork! (Have memories of painting in my house in an awkward position and looking down to see I had tipped the paint pot, which was in my hand, and was slowly pouring paint on the floor! aaarrgghhh!)

I think you can get it direct from the web - www.renovointernational.com

Thats correct. I called them to order and they shipped the next day.

There are good deals if you buy a mixed set of products, depending on what you want to achieve.

I got the 'dry cleaner', the colour restorer and the waterproofer & anti fungal agent.

For some reason, if you get any drips of Thompson water seal on the paintwork, when you go over it with Autoglym extra high gloss polish (the gold label rather than the red label) it seems to completely remove it.

That works. Alternatively, meths or white spirit gets it off too.

I've just done the S's roof with Autoglym. The cleaner is a bit of a pig...the waterproofer is clearly going to do its job. Any overspray ay all reveals its very gummy stuff indeed...

I'll let you know if I'm happy with the results in a day or two...

Very pleased with the results (Thomsons Water Seal). Have to be careful not to over do it but I managed not to spill a drop! Roof has returned to almost new condition. I recommend it!

..... or it might be called 'plus', can't remember. But basically you want the origianl stuff, the other one's not recommended for canvas.

A good point. I wondered about buying the "plus" or "ultra" (whatever) thinking only the best for my Griff! The standard stuff though states it can be used to proof fabrics (tents etc) so it is made for the job, even though it seems hard to believe.
