Ebay dispute help please

Morning people,
I don't use Ebay much so am a little green, I use it infrequently and normally do collection and cash so nice and easy. Recently sold a few smaller items and offered postage. I offered a basic first class letter postage as the item was small/light enough. The bidder who won uses an Argos postbox, this was on the delivery note bit so I believe his 'verified' address. All similar items posted arrived safe and sound to happy people, this guy however complained it hadn't arrived and very quickly asked for his money back.
So after some back and forth emails I believe it has arrived but as non signed for or tracked has trying it on but obviously difficult to prove. He is arguing that Argos would have notified him and me that the item had arrived and automatically update Ebay. That is an impossible scenario as I posted a blank white envelope with only the address of this argos box on it. To be clear, I didn't offer anything about Argos and until now didn't know this existed, equally my local argos is in a dump with expensive parking so wouldn't want to get involved.
Is there anything I can do? The money isn't vast but just the principle, I think he uses Ebay a lot more than me and has realised he can just demand a refund and force me to comply.

Signed for isn't essential but some form of tracking IS. You will need some kind of proof it arrived mate.
Same happened to my lad - he sold a 50p for £2 (future entrepreneur!!!) but guy said it never arrived so kept the 50p and his £2! Cheap life lesson in people's integrity - hope you get it sorted.

Without wanting to appear thick I wasnt sure what to ask, I didn't deal with argos that was just the delivery address. I suppose I could ask if that post box had a delivery but I can imagine 'data protection' being used. Funnily enough this was a coin, found a few old 50p's in some stuff and found out they were rare, looks like £15 and my 50p gone. Probably childish and water of a ducks back but have given him a piece of my mind. As a seller on eBay, you have no chance.
I gave up selling when I flogged the kids Teletubbie doll things. I only sold them because I thought someone might get some pleasure out of it for a few quid. If I sell on eBay, I only do “collection, cash”, anything else goes to the tip.

I have sold lots of stuff untracked on Ebay without a problem - maybe I've just been lucky! Postage on very cheap items can be awkward, as the extra for tracked postage seems a high % of the overall 'deal' - though I suppose it can just be 'hidden' in the item price.
It appears that particular types of item (phones and other 'tech') are prone to the 'it didn't arrive, mate' tactic.

If it was me I would ring up Customer service and you know store location his name and reference for eBay, which is required to check it was delivered. Ask them to email proof. It's Argos click and collect they should have the details. It is possible it wasn't delivered remember that is what you are checking with Argos as the parcel is your vested interest too.

If you addressed the package with the Argos box address it should have included a code which uniquely identifies the buyer and does indeed allow Argos to send the buyer a collection code and update eBay so hardly an impossible situation if you've done that correctly. If you didn't include the code how would Argos know who the parcel is for? The other scenario is that without any tracking or a signature, Royal Mail might have lost it and you'd be non the wiser. Hi, no code on the envelope just the address, Ebay didnt prompt me to add any codes and neither did the buyer. I didnt know argos did this so just posted to the address given.POORCARDEALER said:

until the bloody refund fails I have a dispute at the moment, ebay says its been refunded so closed the case, but paypal doesnt show it coming back.
Ah well, lesson learnt. Make sure its actually refunded before closing the dispute
Ah that's good then, luckily it looks like I did include the code, i copied out exactly what the address read as and there is a code the same as that. I'll quote that to argos on mo day and see what they say. All the help and advice has been appreciated, as I said before it's not the cost just the principals that I can't help feel I'm being conned.
