PDK 718......

When you put the car in P and turn off the ignition does the handbrake engage automatically or do you have to push it on yourself?

Previous car would engage the handbrake as soon as the ignition was off - albeit it was a manual.

718 definitely doesn't do it automatically.

I got in to the habit of engaging it rather than just relying on the gearbox lock.

Cheers.

I thought it needed to be done manually......and I just don't trust the 'box!

Thanks

In my 2014 981 the handbrake does sometimes self engage, most noticeable when I get home and put it in the garage.

I think this is a combination of door open; seatbelt off; PDK gear position? I've never worked it out or had cause to. Other times I have to engage it myself. I have to say it's never caused any issues. Mostly I say to myself "Aha, the car knows it's parked and has applied the handbrake. Well done."

Garage is level of course, so nothing to do with the "hold" feature.

^^ That's interesting. I've never noticed mine do this, but I dutifully put it in P and release seat belt before switching off and removing key. I Suspect most do the same...

I never noticed it either on my 981S. My current car does it but you do have to press the footbrake quite hard as you switch off (harder than I would naturally do) - maybe the Cayster is the same.

I would have thought it is deliberate that this (normally) needs to be engaged manually as it is common practice at a track day to leave the car in gear with handbrake off between sessions to stop the pads sticking on - would be odd if you couldn’t replicate that on a PDK.
