UVM Tracer 50 - resto.
Discussion
A what?
A cheap little 20 year old Chinese twist and go step through.
Some time ago, around 2012 I came in from the pub and did the fatal thing of trawling Ebay. Waking up the next morning I discovered I'd bought a twist and go scooter that was unregistered and had no paperwork from a chap in Swindon. He'd raced BSB and used it as a paddock runabout. Anyway, a trip to Swindon, £50 or £60 later and it's on it's way home.
The challenge of course was to put it on the road. If only for runs to the Curry House, etc.
It was bright yellow, had stickers all over it and no mirrors or indicators. But it started and ran.
A bit of ebaying sorted the mirrors and indicators. A bit more research revealed where to get it SVA'd and what it would need.
Anyway, a trip to Exeter, insured on the frame number, MOT on the frame number (straight through) and a Q plate issued.
I buzzed about on it for a few months and then inevitably it got SORNed until now, my lad is 16 in December.
I'm not riding that! It's bright yellow.
Ok then, learn about two stroke engines, and explain it to me, then you can do a rolling resto.
So, if you're still with me, and reading, my lad is restoring a 20 year old Chinese scooter. Pics to follow.

Change everything rubbery.... hoses, tubings, bushings, bearings,
or at least give them a thorough check, chinese rubber & plastic does not age well.
Be careful when connecting cables by color, sometimes the same cable changes color in the loom.
Think of the famous last words of the movie.........." This is Chinatown "

Already ahead of you there! Rear tyre was flat and punctured. Checked the date code on the tyres. Just 20 years old. New Avons ordered. New gaiters for the forks on the way.
So far it's had a new gel battery, filters and engine service and it's almost ready for it's MOT.
It's also now satin black.
